All beta testers read this!

Please note that it's generally best to start a clean game when a new build becomes available as changes to the code may adversely affect your save games.

Here are some guidelines that should help us deal with bug reports and suggestions:

1) Do not e-mail either bug reports or suggestions for GC2 to support@stardock.com.  Make reports here in the forum, and if you have files that you need to send in, send them to gc2bugs@stardock.net.  Sending gc2 stuff to support just creates more work for support and it takes longer to get to the dev team who are the ones who need it.

2) Please be as detailed as possible when making bug reports.  Tell what you were doing when the bug occurred, who you were playing as, the in game date, whatever.  If it's something that can be reproduced with a save game, we're going to want that.  Screenshots are often useful particularly if the bug is graphical in nature.  We will also almost always want your debug.err file.

3) Install SmartException from https://www.stardock.com/products/smartexception.  For those of you who have had installed since the GC1 beta, there is a new version available that has a few improvements, so you'll want to uninstall the old one and install this new one.  This program creates log files when GC2 crashes, and we'll always ask if you have a SE report if you report a crash.

4) Do not report different bugs under someone else's post.  Make your own.  If you reply to someone else's bug report, it should be to offer suggestions or to add your own experience with the bug.  So if someone makes a post that says "I researched trans-galactic communications and now all my ships are moving backwards," and your ships are moving backwards, you can post "my ships are moving backwards, too, but I think it started when I researched warp drive."  What I don't want to see in that thread is another report that says "my ships are all green. wth?" So please try to be relevant.

5) Please don't put suggestions in the same posts as bug reports unless it's related to the problem you're reporting.

6) If you get string not found errors, e-mail the debug.err file to gc2bugs@stardock.com as the debug.err file will contain information on which string the game couldn't find.

Ok, these are all the things that I can think of for right now.  I'll put some thought into how to make an in game bug report mechanism but I can't promise anything since implementing it will take away time from implementing other stuff.

It wasn't when I bumped it

Have you downloaded stardock central from www.stardock.com? It's a download manager for all of your purchases from Stardock.

Its not sticky on the TGN forums!

apologies if someone put it elsewhere. but: Make a public bug database! If a bug has already been addressed, give us some webspace to know about it so we can avoid spamming the mailbox or the forums even. Hell, why not "go sourceforge.net" all the way; add a priorities column! So maybe a few testers/players get miffed if they discover critical game imbalance A takes backseat to fixing single player campaign B or some other bloody thing

Well, it's not too late in the beta methinks if that's the only thing stoppin' yas.

I downloaded stardock central, and pre-ordered the game, but it still won't show up... it show's up in the register products list with a request for a serial, but I didn't get any with the pre-order email.

Beta 3 closed to pre-orders about a week ago, so it probably won't show up for you. When beta 4 comes out in october you will get access again.

But just in case make show the "show pre-release versions" check box is checked.

In case no Beta tester has mentioned it....I'm getting a pretty consistant CTD whenever I construct my sixth or seventth Starbase.

Oh man, thats my luck
So i can't too sign for beta now

well, I just wait for Gamma then
Heh, I hope you read the problems the players write to the forums(many developers dont give a damn for them, I hope you're not so too)
Sorry i blocked the way of your 'creation powers' ,good work for release

Just a question for the developers, do you still need from us the CTD reports?

Cari? non 0.9 peeps as well? whats the point?
@steevodevo... The point is simply that there may be things unchanged from the public versions that are uncaught as of yet.

Of course there will be Vinco, I was just concerned that you get masses of people reporting bugs in a version of the game that no longer exists, which causes confusion, duplication ofeffort and wasted resource on your part. If non 0.9 testers are useful in beta testing 0.8 - for the reasons you give, why not give them 0.9, the bugs will still be there in 0.9 if tehy haven't been picked up and more people will be involved to spot them.

I guess my point is I am a little irked by this closed group of 0.9 testers and when this came along I thought it was a bit rich! Anyways. Lifes too short onwards and upwards, not long to release now.

Brad, any chance of you guys increasing your internet bandwidth, the downloads are excruciatingly slow. I have a
4-8 Mb/sec cable connection and I am downloading at 50-60kb /sec , sometimes slower , rarely faster. This has happened only in the past 2 weeks before that it was much better.

Well, maybe lots of people are trying to download things related to Object Desktop, who knows. But I hope Stardock will be able to increase bandwith for the day of Galciv II release.

Maybe they should make it available a few days eariler to the Beta testers to spread the load. Please! Please! Please!

What a great idea!
We won't tell anyone... (how could we - busy playing anyway!)
