I sure as hell did

Would you think I'd lost my way,
if I said I lost my faith,
when I ran straight into a brick wall,
without,
without flinching.
Without driving right into the ditches,
hands off the wheel,
or the handlebars,
that wasn't where I was headed,
that wasn't where the wear on tires was pulling me.
It all kept me moving,
and why shouldn't it,
just because I'm scared?
I remember where I've been,
and how it felt,
and why I was there.
But I do so often,
forget to remember,
that I used to think I knew everything.
At the time,
I sure as hell did,
and while I'm not sure hell exists,
perhaps it's worth the myth,
to keep the students in their seats,
and eyes forward,
whether or not they were seeing anything at all.
Accepting the bricks stacked before them,
and the knowledge encased within the mortar,
without flinching,
like they had seen nothing happen to them at all,
and that's what I learned,
once I had forgotten to remember.
How bad it felt to,
feel like this,
not caring that I had been duped once again,
driving right into the ditch,
because I was sick of moving so swiftly,
towards this wall.
