Without You

I have achieved so much.
I have reaped the rewards of
hard work and discipline.

I have learned so much,
about chemical reactions,
math equations, and the proper
blending of colors to make
the perfect shadow.

After all this time, all these beautiful people
all my friends and foes, all the gifts bestowed upon me
by God, I wonder.

Did I learn compassion here? Did I learn trust here?

Did I learn to live here? Did I learn to hope here?

Did I come away from this institution
with the tools I need to succeed in modern day society?
(Or whatever those bureaucrats say these days)

No. I came away with formulas and ideas,
Rockets and trivia about the Russian Revolution.
I came away with economics, a simple understanding of governance,
and a penchant for dark chocolate.

The things that are truly important,
Like love, faith, hope, and beauty.

I learned from you.
You who have sacrificed so much for me.
(Even if you never understood my calculus homework)
These past 18 years, I have learned so much
achieved so much.

But everything important I learned from you.

Without you, I would be nothing.

Peace,

This sounds like something you wrote for your parents. If so, you should tell them. It is beautiful.

Thank you. I don't know when I'll show this to them, but I will, and soon.

I like it Alex! It's very sweet!

Thanks!

What a terrific tribute to your parents beebes, more hard working parents could use something like this to make all the crap we take raising kids worth it... more.

Thank you. I think that all the hard work that parents do to get their child ready for the real world is something that's almost completely forgotten by most people. News reporters talk about a famous person or a person who has done great things, but no one ever talks about all the hard work and saving that person's parents had to do to put them through college so they could get that job.

A big thank-you to all the parents on JU for all you do for your children! Without you, all of us youngsters would be in a heap of trouble.

Peace,

Beebes

I wish my youngest daughter the hard head {hm I wonder where she got hardhead from} could remember all I did for her instead of the one thing she thinks is unforgivable { I disaprooved of her mate}

{ I disaprooved of her mate}

There is always room for forgivness. Maybe you could try to work things out so that she'll remember all the good times instead of the bad.

Just a thought.

Alex your parents are very lucky to have a son like you. And you are lucky to have parents that you have.
This poem is very nice and I believe your parents would love to hear it.
