So what's being developed?

Just wondering what's on the horizon for DX?

I know I've been out of the loop for a bit, but everything seems to have gone really quiet since the release of DX3.

Any chance of finding out what's being developed?

Any chance that we're doing anything re the following? :

1) Scripting fonts (face, size, bold etc)
2) Font styles - defining styles so these can be quickly applied to objects rather that manually configuring the font's for them each time? Even the ability to define a default mouse away, mouse over state etc would be a good start.

Cheers,

Martin

Do you mean what SD is making for DX, or what the people around here are making with DX?

I just want to know how I can change the italic font in the script editor to something more normal without hacking into anything

? italic text in the code editor? You refer to the comments?

no. My DesktopX script editor uses some italic font when coding in VBScript. Was hoping there was a way to change that.

I have wondered myself where all the new objects, widgets and themes have been. Usually after a new release, certainly of the magnitude of DX3, would have a flood of new material.
Perhaps like me, many people still haven't found a reason to use DX on a daily basis.

It's a bit odd, yes. Since DX3 makes it a bit easier to make more complicated objects with the ability to loop through objects and parent objects can catch events from child objects. Before DX3 I was working on some really quirky ways around that. Almost had it done when DX3 came with that ability built in. So I was starting from scratch again. I got a few projects going on at the moment. But I'm not focusing on one in perticular. Something which I ought to do, but I can't keep my attention at one project for too long.

That is really odd. Have you tried reinstalling DX? And making sure that you haven't lost the Courier New font somehow?

I'm trying to work on an iTunes cover art object. However, since I don't know how to code I really haven't gotten anywhere.

From a users stand-point, I uninstalled DX3 after finding that the Core weather has issues with displaying current conditions (the text portion) on one horizontal line. Under 2.4, it displayed the text "Partly Cloudy" (very common here in Seattle) on one horizontal line which did not obscure any other information on the widget.

Running under DX3, "Partly Cloudy" started displaying with Partly above Cloudy, which resulted in the city name being obscured. Sent screen shots to Tech Support a month ago, have not heard back.

Core weather and calendar, along with GT3 digital clock were mainstay's on my computer before the issue, now using WB, IP, and OD+. Waiting to hear back, or see updated Core to reinstall.

From a skinner's point of view, I feel the need to finish an IconPackager theme, and a WindowBlind before tackling coding and creating some widgets - maybe someday.

I just checked and I do have Courier New in English and 5 other languages

So you're telling me that the italic font is not the default font???? I've uninstalled and reinstalled DX many times and the font has always been italic. That is very odd.

Well, I think the original question has been well and truly hijacked, but it was originally asking what functionality was being added to DX as per the two examples I gave.

Sorry, guilty of an irrelevant comment.

Sorry for making at least a third of them. I'll retreat of into solitude now.

I also apologize, thus continuing the hijacking, but ending my part in it.

Right now we're working on getting DesktopGadgets.com up. There is also a lot of work being done on DesktopX Enterprise.

Any aproximate time for DesktopGadgets.com? Will it be possible to put your self up on a list for developers who can accept commisions?

What's different in DX Enterrpice? Any hints, details?

DesktopGadgets.com is nearly ready. Stay tuned!

Are you looking to have people put things on DesktopGadgets.com before its open to the "World"? So there are things ready for the "OPEN"?

I think that Microsoft really need to look at the whole concept of DesktopX and have it built into Windows Longhorn. It really is very powerful. A year ago, I wouldnt of dreamt of being able to make a stand-alone program with fancy graphics with a quick program turnaround. I bought the Pro version of it as I was looking forward to selling my gadgets on DesktopGadgets.com. Unfortunately, it is taking longer than I would like to see the website up and running. Any ideas on timescale now?

Stardock, keep up the excellent work with DesktopX.

p.s. I would also like to see some development re the fonts. It is very frustrating not being able to change the font type, size etc on a certain event in the script.
