What happened to all the skinners? Anything new in the works?

Not aimed at anyone, just curious, as I'm always anticipating the really creative and excellent skins. I haven't seen any really quality or very creative skins in a very long time. I'm talking along the lines of things like GT3, Antares, Quasar, Transilvania etc. Is anyone working on any skins that are a bit more creative/usable for the near future?

Oh, and for the "flamers"... don't bombard me with nonsense like, "don't complain if you cant create it", as I'm not putting anyone down. I'm a web designer who works constantly, and I don't have the time to do yet more art with WB. Just hoping for some more really quality skins in the near future.

Cheers.

I'm learning how to work better in DesktopX, and you can look either on CerebroJD.net or else on my WinCustomize.com home page for more information. I've got another couple projects in the works too, but their in the very early stages. There is a pertty sweet clock widget of mine that I'm working with pjpowell to finish off, and then it should be available. I'm sure theres some cool stuff in the works, based on some screenshots of WIP's I've seen on IRC. Just sit tight... I think that good stuff comes in waves.

I dont know if you have missed them or simply dont care for them..But Boxxi has recently released a couple of *Very cool WB's one is called "Beelzebub" and the other is "Clouds" ..
They are pretty "resource intense" though so if you do not have the machine to handle it they may not be for you.
In my opinion they are the best of the latest skins released..

Skinning is not dead,
Art takes time! LoL

I'm still stuck in the last stages of the WOW Theme (the remaining skins and the suite file will be uploaded tonight) After this, Im gonna finish the Azar Theme as well as the Defcon II Theme. The next project on the drawing board is the Resident Evil Apocalypse Theme.

I think that good stuff comes in waves.

I couldnt agree more JD

Personally I've become very bored with trying to completely finish a WindowBlinds skin. I don't use the Windows taskbar/systray, or startmenu, so I really don't care to skin it.
I've considered looking for a collaborator to do the bits I find bothersome..

But judging from your list of examples, you're really only interested in a certain few skinners, with a certain style.......... so I'm guessing it really doesn't matter what the rest of us are doing......

I have more Episode III things in the works. I want to start my next wb, but I have to wait for my hand to get better.

Jafo is refining ANTARES III for Litestep ..... lots of per-pixel tweaking and more functionality, alpha-blending, code-cleaning, etc....

I'm putting a huge complete suite together. Problem is I wasn't satisfied with it when I started it back in 2004

New versions of WB have seen the day since then, so I've remade the WB skin 3 times with new graphics, remade the cursors once, gonna remake the wallpaper and thereby also the logons and bootskin. Then I will begin making the extras like Sysmetrix, OD backgrounds, Rainlendar and hopefully a Winamp and WMP skin. And then there are the icons... where I've also remade a couple, and probably will remake more.

I haven't done anything for six months, apart from a few part done bits and pieces. My job has gotten so busy that by the time I get home I'm too worn out to even try. When a complete WB skin takes up to 60hrs to complete it's difficult to get motivated. Plus I can't do toolbar buttons or animations, so that leaves my stuff incomplete. Never mind

Must be the time of the year. I'm taking a little rest after my recent skin pack. Everyone needs to let their creative batteries recharge every once in a while, and I've discovered a couple of interesting new things to do (well, new to me) - some 3D modelling (which I'm currently rubbish at) and music sample sequencing.

(And Fuzzy - with the sections on the site particularly for toolbar icons and animations, you could still post and let the user choose something to coordinate themselves. Don't feel you can't post if your skin doesn't have those bits!)

Got something in the works...won't come close to the likes of GT3 or Antares, I'm not even worthy of polishing treetog's shoes...but it will be very feature-complete. It's going on two months of development...and still lot's left to do...but I'm gettin' there...

I disagree with the whole premise. The Mako suite was outstanding, not only in style, but in originality and usability, and hasn't been out all that long.

Does it really matter, this type of thread comes up a few times each year. 2 million members with different tastes, thats hard for a skinner to please. So if a skin gets 20,000 downloads, which is a lot, thats only 1%, so the other 99% didn't like it. So remember, the skinner's are skinning for themselves and sharing it with those that like it. To get a skin exactly how you want it, you have 2 choices: Do it yourself or pay someone to do it for you, or settle for whats here. 1/2 of whats been named above, I don't like or use, so I'am just as picky as everyone else, but I don't skin so I pick threw the library. By the way, I do have some favorite skinners who's blinds I usually like.
