ERROR Report

Computer: SONY VAIO laptop PCG-FXA53

Hello scott@stardock.com,

Here is my CRASH report for GalCiv2.

I have read the BETA 1 NOTES and practice them.
I choose:
NEW GAME
A TINY Galaxy
I pick HUMAN
I pick ONE opponent the DRENGIN.
SIMPLY game.

The game goes to the load screen. The music plays.
Then the screen goes black. About ten seconds latter up pops the infamous MICROSOFT "...has encounter a problem,
... SEND or DON'T SEND, I click on DON'T SEND, because MICROSOFT does not relies that some people are not connect to the 'net 24/7, compounding the problem they lack a save and send latter option.
The music stutters until I crash back to desk top.

My computer system is a SONY VAIO PCG-FXA53 notebook upgraded to 512 ram with an AMD Athlon XP processor at 1.3 GHZ. with an ATI 3D Rage MOBILITY-M1 Graphic chip.
I have search and found no upgrades from Microsoft, SONY and even ATI that I have not already install long ago. I found an alternate 15 meg. Suppose update, which I have downloaded and installed and I can no change to what I have described.

Thank you.

As you have an ATI Mobile video card, I am pretty much convinced that you have outdated drivers because you get exactly the same kind of debug informations as I had. I own an ATI Mobile M6 card and using the (unofficial) Omega Drivers solved my problems.

Here is the http://www.omegadrivers.net/

If you are not comfortable using third party drivers, I suggest yoy to wait until ATI finally releases updates drivers for Mobility cards.

Kort-

I have downloaded and installed the thrid party drivers and get the same problems.

Anything else I can do? I still can play the game only look at the pretty pictures.

When you installed the new drivers, did you uninstall the old ones first? It's usually a good idea to uninstall your video driver, reboot, then install the new driver.  Otherwise, it doesn't always correctly update the driver.

If you did it that way, or you try doing that and it still doesn't work, run dxdiag and save the report. Then send the report to me at carielf@stardock.com

Hello. Yet another can't get it to work post. I've been fiddling with it for a while now and it still crashing when I create a new game, after the choose opponents screen. I've read through the posts here and I have Dx 9.0c, I have the multimedia installed and I've tried to find the latest drivers for my vid card.

I have a Trident CyberBlade XP Ai1 v.6.4221.22
Celeron 1.2 GHz, 496 MB RAM, running XP SP2

I have a feeling it's probably the video driver so if any of you can point me to a gooder update (or just tell me what else I'm doing wrong) I'd be much obliged.

Thank you

Make sure that you have Direct3D acceleration turned on.

I googled your video card and from the website that I found, it looks like it's a laptop video card? You will probably have to go to the website of the laptop's manufacturer to see if there are any updated drivers, or you could try running a google search on your video card name and the word driver.  How old is the laptop? It sounds like the card was made before DirectX 9 came out, so if you don't have an updated driver, it might not be able to handle the 3d graphics.

Yeah it's a laptop. Toshiba Satilite 1400 S-151, got it on '02. I went to the Toshiba website and the most recent driver I could find was from '02. I also googled for a couple hours looking for drivers but didn't turn up anything better.

I tried looking on the Toshiba support forums and there were several posts about updating drivers and there appears to be a form answer given out by "John" in all of them:
Only ones tested and approved by Toshiba would be at www.ts.toshiba.com However, Toshiba has a LONG and Infamous history of NOT providing video updates

John

Anyone know where I can get more recent ones? Or am I going to have to get a new vid card? Hardware upgrades on laptops are no fun

edit: aaaaahhhh my eyes

The Omega Catalyst drivers should work for your laptop (they do on mine and on my desktop PCs):

I'd have suggested the omega drivers, but that isn't a NVidia or a ATI card is it?

i'm in the same position like everybody else. done all the usual stuff what to do but it came up with the same nonsense send/don't send report to microsoft.....

anyway i can find any other links to get it up and running or have i gotta wait for the cd to come out? to be honest i think it's my machine but i can't be bothered getting a new one coz this pc serves me well enough.

Djiceman,

I can't make any suggestions without seeing your debug.err file and a smart exception report.  Please read the post entitled How to Submit Bug Reports
