Thank You War

Her whispering phone calls cannot be received here,
The same that used to reopen eyes recently closed,
To the weariness of a favorite book,

Her whispers,
I can still hear,
In a lullaby between the gunfire and sirens.

I know I've forgotten the many times,
When I needed her the least,
That I was still the one,
Who needed her the most.

As promised,
I look up to Orion,
As she promised,
To look up to Orion.

As promised,
I tell Orion the same thing every night,
To wish her a good night,
And to let me survive the night.

As promised,
She tells Orion the same thing every night,
To wish me a good night,
And to let me survive the night.

Thank you war,
And I mean that with the most sincerity,
For putting my heart in the stars,
As I have nothing to love where I am,
And thus no need for it here.

It belongs to her,
I've instructed Orion to deliver.

If ever there comes a night,
When I fail to wish you a good night,
When I've failed to survive the night.

Her whispers,
I can still hear,
In a lullaby between my failing breath and the beats of my heart on its way to Orion.

I am not an identitiy theif at least I don;t think so. I am pretty new to all this a friend referred me to this site and I have enjoyed it so far. But I love this peice of writing. If ever there comes a night,
When I fail to wish you a good night,
When I've failed to survive the night.

Her whispers,
I can still hear,
In a lullaby between my failing breath and the beats of my heart on its way to Orion.

Beautiful, and oh how I wish I could find a guy who could write like you can.

Thanks zuma and MM, I wrote this is reaction to story in our local paper. A married couple was talking about how they both could see orion and that gave them comfort. I was remarking about how heartfelt I thought that was, and the only reaction I received was how sad that is that they're so distanced that they only have the stars for comfort.
