Why do people download Trillions substandard software?

Why do people download Trillions substandard software?

This is real junk!!

:( Nothing surprising here... I can't think of ever downloading ANY Trillian that actually works the way it's supposed to. More often then not, if you can possibly keep it from crashing, it screws something up on people's computer. This latest version has got to be the worst piece of rubbish to ever be made public. I have found that in both the public and purchased versions I, and most of my assosiates, can't even to get this garbage to install! Then, once we actually CAN get it installed (it took three days) it kills off our AIM and MSN. I think this app should be thrown out and reworked from the beginning. It's more like a pesky virus then a helpful program. Small wonder it doesn't work well with Norton! Sorry about the harshness of this posting, but this has got to be said by someone. I don't mean to offend anyone, but this is garbage. No matter how many times you download it. :(

I would approve if you died

Now c'mon.. this is getting out of hand and I don't think that any of us should be subject to crap like this.
I would exhile your butt in a heartbeat if I had the ability.

well, i have been using trillian since v.074 (or some other number beginning with 7) and nver had any problems... MSN was only dropped when MS had Network Problems.
For IRC i use Gamers.IRC, but for the few times i visit the IRC Network i could probably do with Trillians limited IRC Capabilities.

I agree its a bit extreme to attack a program that has worked flawlessly for many and even for yourself in the past, that is not working properly now. Evidentily there is something on your PC that trillian doesn't cooperate with.

As for the person said they would approve if you died, this poster should be banned from WC. No matter how badly someone complains about something, death is not something you wish on someone.

I know right? Like a messenger programs low popularity with one person at one time is that important...lol ANYHOW

I tried unpacking it manually, and disabling my Virus software, and I got it done that way... Still can't get AIM to sign in though... Says my password is invalid. Is this just because AIM still doesn't play fair? My password works everywhere else. This is the same beef I had with it for the last two years!!! Trillian hate's me ::

Sounds to me like you have a huge firewall/proxy issue. You should never have to unpack it manually to get it to work. Build 122 of ver 3.1 has a fix of some aim/icq issues so you may what to make sure you have the latest download.

Lol, Not the first time I've had to do it to Trillian though... And it seems to be the only program that goes that way. I don't get it either, but yes, I have the one thats available on Cnet right now. If I can get aim to work, I'll be ok with it

I have used Trillian since the beginning more or less (I hate having all the stand-alone take up extra room) and although I think it is getting a little bloated as of the v3.0 I still think it is a good piece of software that saves cpu power. I have also never encountered any of the bugs or problems that you have and have it installed on about 20 computers of various setups.

Agree there, but I feel it improved from version 2.
You can get rid of the bloat but unloading any of the plugins that you don't use...thus reducing the amount of memory you use. I don't use it for IRC or jabber or rendezvous so I don't have those plugins installed. Plus I have no use for the video/audio conferencing so I got rid of those dll files. All told I reduced my memory footprint to about 4 mb at any one time and that is with the main window open, aim/msn/y! signed in and conversations going in each protocol.

Plus don't use a graphic happy skin.

Hazylunarrain: It seriously sounds as though you're having proxy server problems. What ISP do you have? Do you have a hardware firewall/router installed?

I guess the green smileys are going to haunt us forever.

I use alltel DSL. It seems that the program is working ok now that I put everything in it's place piece by piece. Don't know for sure why the hell it always happens only to Trillian though. I just wish I could get bloody AIM to work... Tried everything, even completly shutting off all security, etc. All I can say is I hate the devil(Windows)lol. If anyone could come up with the whole "password not valid please click here to try again" popup, I'll call it gooood...::

Trillian works on my just fine...one more thing quote]It's more like a pesky virus then a helpful program.

Well Hazy, I finally did it..I installed Trillian.

I use Nortons Internet Security Suite "05" No probs there at all.

It took minutes to Download and install. (DSL)

It uses ALOT less resources than the other IM clients do (MSN, AIM etc..etc)

I have to say all in all it was a very "painless" installation, and a breeze to set-up..AIM Yahoo and MSN seemed to configure without any trouble at all.

I am actually pretty impressed with it..

Im sure this doesnt make you feel any better about it, but it has to be something in your machine thats causing you the trouble..

Zero.

I'm really embarrasse by what I'm about to say, so don't be too harsh with me guys.....

I finally realize what my problem with the install was. Theres only on ething it could be as my system is EXACTLY the was it was (the others too)...
The only thing I can think of thats left that it could have been was several bad downloads. I dunno if I caught their servers at a tricky time or what, but I have had it working for about 2 days now no problem. Dunno how else to explain it. :S

At any rate, It seems to be working fine now so all in all not a bad program

wow.. I expected to have been berated by my deathwisher by now...
ANYHOW, still running great, much better then expected. Even the basic version. Still a little quirky, but Cerulean has made huge strides in this product since the last time I used it.

Wow!! I was gonna really lay into ya after reading the inital tirade at the top but I'm glad to see you are willing (unlike some others) to try and fix the problems you have as opposed to just pissing and moaning and then never returning.

Like most of the other posters here, I've used Trillian since before you could even buy a version and I've had very little trouble with it. Most issues were in the beginning when various providers (AOL) would make daily changes to try and keep Trillian from working on their network. Recently however I have had exactly zero problems with it and I connect to, AIM, Yahoo, and 2 MSN accounts all at the same time in one combined interface. I absolutely love it!! I must, to pay for it year after year...

Now, my only wish is for them to do something about the skinning mechanism because I've seen mention of the fact that Trillian is a major PITA to skin which is why there are so few good skins for it.. Hopefully they will fix that very soon!

Again, glad you got your problems rectified, and remember, if you have problems in the future a post with details about the problem and the steps you've taken to try and fix them will get you far more help than a pointless tirade berating the quality of the program.

Seriously I don't think anyone would be after you to kill you but it is good to know that it is working....and I knew you would like the new version once you got it working.

Definately go over to DA and take a look at their trilly skin section, probably has the best ones there on the net right now. At least until we can convince WC to add a section.
I tried a few of the skins, but it it seems if I use some of the skins built for previous versions it "locks" the skin. It won't change back. The best I could do was reinstall the prog and I have stayed with the "whistler" skin since. Also, I usually run the program with AIM MSN, and 2 Yahoo's. The ability to be signed into more then one user account is a great saving of resources! No more running two instances of Yahoo at the same time

Hazy,

Yah, skins can be hard to come by that's for sure, and good ones are even harder!! If you are really interested, check out the forums on Ceruleans site, there's a skinning forum where people tend to post the skins they are working on and sometimes you can find links to some really good skins there.. My personal favorite is COpusBlue, which was based on a skin by Bose I believe. Search for COpusBlue_RC4.tsz on the net and you may be able to find it.

Good Luck!!
