Problem with Map Editor

I downloaded my copy of Altairan Prophecy on Tuesday (6/15) and was looking forward to looking at the Map Editor ( along with other items).

1. I went to the Help menu to look up how to use the editor. It could not find the help file for the editor. It turns out that it was looking in the wrong director. Found it by looking in my C:.

2. I couldn't place a single star on the map. Nothing appear to happen. After a bit, the screen would seem to hang and then I get a message about placint star on a border. What border?

The other editors appear to work fine. Any ideas?

What border?

Its not too clear but that is actually where the map ends. The space appears to go on beyond the edge of the map.But there should be a faint yellow line where the map ends.

Is this with 1.50.006? I thought that Joe was supposed to fix that problem where you can't place anything unless you create a new map after opening the editor.

I just loaded the Map Editor and according to app, it is GCEditor v 1.0 I didn't see a 1.50.006. Does this thing generate an error report? I can send it to you.

I didn't see a version number either.

Mucking around with the map editor, the only way to get stars on there is by choosing to randomize stars, then clear them so I have a fresh map to work with :/

What I'd like to do is just create a nice, gigantic spiral galaxy... and NOT have to name every single star! It'd be nice if I could just create the layout, then import that into game - and then the game could randomize start locations/resources/planets without changing the stars around. As is I tried importing the map with stars only and the game quit to desktop once it finished loading.

As is, the amount of empty space on the larger maps is (IMO, of course) insanely daft. I like a crapload of stars.

CariElf is refering to the version of AP, which you can find on Stardock or when you play a game, the main menu has the version number on the top of the page.

Weyrleader,

Thanks. I already talked to Cari. The version is the latest one posted on SDC - 1.05.06 Other than this, I actually enjoy the game.

It will be great to make my own custom map, when this get dealt with.

Am I just an idoit, or am I the only person that can't seem to either scroll or zoom the map editor?

Gunner243,

No you're not. That was another headache I was having with the editor. Apparently, you're supposed to use the mouse wheel to zoom in and out; except that it doesn't work in my case. :(

I was told by Cari that the person who works on the editor will be working on the problem. :)

You should also be aware that any map you create will not submit to the Metaverse. My experience so far on using maps generated by other than Stardock is that you will get a message that says: " The game is using an unauthoized custom map or scenario" or something similar to that (the exact quote is at home). The real problem is it sets a flag somewhere in the game that is not reset until you load a Stardock custom map. Any games on standard random maps will not submit either after you use your own custom map. At least that is my experience.
