LAME!!!

LAME!!!

people know what they are doing is removing my skins from the visible library and its not fair, they said they were doing it and why, yet no1 cares. I think this system is rigged, because only people with a user level of 4 and higher can rate and that means that they are subscribers and or skinners who want to hold other skinners as down as possible. People dont even download my skins anymore they just click one. Look at the comments at https://www.wincustomize.com/ViewSkin.aspx?SkinID=1289&LibID=25&comments=1 im sick of people just clicking 1. I think there should be a few more rules so people in 'power' dont hold all the cards, i think that you should state why you are rating the skin the way you are rating it, that you should only get to rate 1 skins per artist per day, that people who abuse ratings should lose thier user level, and that skins with a rating of 2 are lower are not hidden by default . Ive made several posts trying to get staff attention yet i continue being ignored. Most the nasty comments i recieve are about my NICK, i find that to be very stupid, what does my name have to do with my skins.

IMGOD5552666,

This post really got a lot of attention.

It is not clear what your ultimate goal is here at this site, but I went to the CursorXP library to see what all the fuss was about and found 3 cursor sets you had made.

My first impression was that the preview image needs to be improved so we can see your work clearly. It looks like the edges of most of your work were fairly jagged. I am just starting to make graphics and I have been told that jagged edges spell certain doom for an aspiring graphic artist. I have CursorXP installed, but don't use it very often due to the need for precise cursors in some of my programs. Therefore, I did not download them to give them a shot.

If I may, I would suggest creating a higher quality image for the preview and probably work on the jagged edges of the cursors. Also, have you tried using them for a substantial amount of time on your own machine? If you have, are you happy with them? I am very happy with a wallpaper I made and use currently, which did not make it through moderation. The way I look at it is this; if I am happy with it, great, if others like it, all the better - if no one else likes it, I am still happy with it.

Nickname:

The nickname is certainly bound to draw attention to itself and you. I don't know you personally, so I don't know if this is a statement of some kind, or just something you picked for no specific reason. I do have a good bit of experience in some arts that are based on a non-collision way of harmony with life, and this nickname seems bound for collision for all eternity to me. I don't know that anyone can really live comfortably with a lightning rod in their hands, if you catch my meaning.

Anyway, I thought a few comments from a fairly new member here (about 9 months) might be appropriate due to the fact that I am one of the many people that skinners are catering to.

Peace, and I hope you find a good solution to the issues you have raised.

You know, until the last bit about striking you down i really intended on giving some useful criticm and help but...

Check your email, there are some cursor that could be quite decent if only you spent just a little more time plishing things up. Especially your Blackened Glass set. It had potential but as other have said, the edges are not defined, the screenshot (and the majority of your screenshots need work) and your choice of colors need to be addressed as well - reference Fire and Ice.

There's room for improvement as there is in everyone's skin. There hasn't been a single one that is completely perfect straight out of the box...Tiggz's GT3 media player comes close, damn close *coughs* but i digress.

Perhaps it's the choice of your editor, perhaps it's your lack of patience or skill, I don't know but every one of your cursor sets seems to be a mish-mash of shapes and look as if you lose interest halfway through.

Take some time, hone your skills, create the best cursor set you can and then try to top that before uploading again.

Blackened Glass 2 a review...

Style of cursor is too large for normal day to day use, though the color choice would allow it to go with many different desktops. The resize cursors are especially difficult to use since it is very hard to center the orb in the middle correctly to resize a window and the busy cursor has what appears to be an "L" on it. More appropriate for the busy cursor would be some sort of hourglass or animation. While I personally do not like this style of cursor, it's rather puffy in appearance, what really detracts me from it is the quality of the images used, not only in the cursors themselves, but the screenshot as well.

This author has assembled and uploaded some 50 plus assorted CursopXP packages and in general the reviews of each will be fairly similiar to the above I am guessing, but I will, unfortunately for me, take the time to download each one and review it. Unfortunately for this author, most will not. Either because of the amateurish nature of the previews, the childish behavior of this author both in his comments here and in the forums, or simply because they are offended by his nickname choice. Most will ignore this author's works entirely and when the day comes that he does create something worthy of appreciation, the majority of the community will have already written him off and not even notice. -Essencay

There you go IMG*D. What I really think after using, I'm guessing, your latest skin.

I'm with the rest. I did check your work and it looks like you just wipped them out as fast as you could. If you ask the skinners that are ranked at the top on how long they spend on their work. Most likely they spend alot of time just to get it perfect.

My advice is keep trying and improving. I can care less about the name. It's just amazing that it past moderation, unless they don't moderate the cursors. I admit, some of my work has been declined and so has alot of the other skinner's work. But it just makes you push harder for something better. Unless you were just in it for the DLs.

You hit the nail right on the head Essencay...after reading his comments and seeing his attitude in this forum he's been written off as a waste of bandwidth and good air.

Actually, there is god in here, and His name is Frogboy.

ok, let me say something. There will be NO idol worship on WC! (This is exactly what other sites accuse of us, btw)

Anywho to IMGOD: First of all, let's take a look at your cursors. Maybe the skinners around here can offer some advice. I'm trying to be as positive as possible, and I'm sure others are as well. So please try to recognize the fact that we're here to HELP, not HURT your skinning experience. (If you choose to ignore the comments, please read the paragraphs below them then at the very least)

OK, here's your latest set. The problem here is that it really looks like it was made after 20 minutes spent with MS Paint. Perhaps a few light filters were thrown on it in Photoshop, but it really looks awkward.

The issue is here that the preview image looks REALLY confusing. There are no labels or anything besides the author and title, so all of these cursors are totally unorganized and irrevelant to the normal user. One could get a sense of animation through them, but if you notice with the other preview images for CursorXP sets, authors usually do not show it off because it looks a bit strange and jumbled.

So, what's the issue here? Everyone may be avoiding it. It is SKILL. However, this is not a god-given trait in many cases. (*snurk*) Your ratings and download counts may be low because the average WC user looks at this skin and immediately dislikes it. Why? Any of the veterans here would say: "Wow, this guy spent little to no time thinking about HOW this set looks in relation to its functionality." Yes, just because it works for YOU doesn't mean it works for everyone else. I've found this with programming especially, but it applies to skinning as well. Also to address the preview image issue: I have an IconPackager skin called GANT2. When I first uploaded it, its preview image maybe only showed 6 icons and didn't look good at all. However, once I updated it, I whipped up a new preview image filled with only the BEST icons and plenty of TEXT to explain how and what would affect the user's computer. Let's try an approach from this angle instead next time.

Also, I'd SERIOUSLY recommend heading over to Good-Tutorials.com, or simply googling "Photoshop tutorials" to try to improve that skill. Not everyone is born with uber l33t Photoshop skillz, everyone has to work hard at it first to get the hang of it. I guarantee if you do several tutorials and spend the time to learn the craft first, producing the art will become more easier, more fun, and more successful for you.

And I'll take the first step for you...CHANGE THE NAME. You'll thank us later.

Citizen IMGOD5552666 As you know I am not one that criticizes anybody's work and have absolutely no intention of criticizing yours. But if you would like to take some construction advice what I think is the best thing to do is after you make your cursors or whatever take a good hard look at them. And not from the point of the artist, but from the point of the critic. As you know we are our own worst critics...at least I am...and if you can say that you really like it and you dont think you can do any better than you have done your best and if other people dont like it not much you can do about that. After all if you are happy with it, what does points matter?

I've looked at your submissions and I agree with you in a way. There are things that need to addressed. NO ONE deserves to get comments like you did! They are nasty and should be removed. Something like that shouldn't be tolerated here. If some liked and well respected WC authors would get the same comments as you did, I'm sure (as it happened in the past) the comments would be removed and possibly the people posting them would be exiled or at least warned. Which should be done in this case as well...

The same respect should be shown to everyone.

If some submissions are "UGLY," than I think it's up to moderators to eliminate them before they get uploaded at all.

Secondly, you cannot criticize people for choosing their own settings. It's nothing you should be mentioning in the first place. It's none of your business. If you suspect a foul play regarding your ratings, contact the moderators. (It's kinda hard to believe that rightfully you get only one skin out of 60 with a rating of 5 and the rest is below that.) And even though it's true your peview shots need a lot of improving, the preview shots shouldn't be used for rating purposes. To rate a skin fairly, people should open the application, try it and then come back to rate it.

As far as your name goes, it should be up to anyone's choosing and it's no one else's business. But, you shouldn't insult people who believe that it's inappropriate nor you should behave like a little brat and to be disrespectful to other people's beliefs with your stupid comments like the one above.
But I've definitely seen much worse here and much more offensive to religious people.

Okay, I'm out of lurk mode for a sec.

I just wanted to add my two Cent$ worth...
As far as something being unfair, I've seen perfectly amazing skins get shoved off of the 'new skins' library because someone pumped out 2 or 3 skins that are barely passable, re-colored or even without anti-alias (ugh). So, if anyone has a reason to gripe it's the skinners who take not minutes, not hours, not days but weeks and sometimes MONTHS to complete an entire skin or a whole suite.

Imgod, I'm actually afraid to try your skins (yeah, your screens need improving)...and some of the comments have been overly harsh in some places but in all honesty I think it really is an insult to those who work so very hard to make something of quality and not quantity when you don't seem to put that extra effort in to polish up your works or even your screenshots.

I'm just curious... What skin that you've completed thus far has given you reason to feel pride and a sense of accomplishment yet? Can you name one and why you feel that way about it?

Whatever you do, don't get too discouraged. If everyone told you your stuff was always great you'd never improve and you'd have a false sense of security in your work.

Honestly? Do you want MORE people to see your work for real, only for more bashing of your skins etc.? If you look at the odds, your skins get a high percentage of negative feedback so if everyone could see them don't you think that would at least double or even triple? Is that what you really want?

~On a side note~
--I plan on trying my hand at skinning soon myself. I'll probably suck but I won't submit something until I feel it doesn't suck any longer even if it takes me weeks or even months. That way, if I get constructive criticism on a work I did that I truly WORKED on I'll take pride in knowing someone took the time to truly look at my work and appreciate it enough to help me better it!

Peace to you and yours and a happy 2005 to all!

I have my settings so I see all the new stuff. I am not impressed with any of your work to date. That's why I don't download it. I don't comment because I prefer to have something constructive to say or remain silent.
Your name is not offensive as much as it is infantile and comic in a tragic kind of way.I looked at your work first, your name second. neither was worth a second look.
if you were rated a 1, consider yourself lucky. I and many others wouldn't take the time to rate something that difficult to view.

There will always be kids who (at a given time) really have no 'feel for the ropes' of the online world, so they may sound awkward/offensive, where in reality, they're just a little confused. (I, for some reason, am more likely to believe the shown Decade-younger age of his DA account than his posted age here at WC)

Cut 'em a little slack, as far as telling him that his stuff is crap..I dont think that will 'help' anyone accomplish anything here...and perhaps...(for those 'in power') consider a revisal of the 'policy' on uploading skins...

If a skin is so God-Awful that only a brainless idiot would download it...It shouldnt be accepted.

What you are doing currently is 'offending' the VAST majority of users/skinners by allowing crap to accumulate in the libraries, all in order to avoid offending just ONE wannabe-skinner. People who spend large amounts of time on a single high-quality skin have perhaps a day at the top of the page in a library before being buried by 'under-par' submissions.

Hey, you 'offend' countless numbers of wall-artists by rejecting large amounts of their work every single day, why not do the same for the skins?

I think by now, he either gets it or he doesn't.

And I have to agree with EventHorizon...many of his skins should have never made it to the libraries. By allowing so many of them through it sortof sends the wrong message and leaves him to the wolves.
