A Christmas for She and He

This poem has been on hiatis from JU as it was written as a gift. However, since it has since been given to it's proper recipient I thought it would be okay to share it with the rest of you, especially because I really like how it turned out. I was looking in my journal for it to work on and I noticed that I wrote it first back in September. Pretty funny when someone tells you what they want for Christmas in September isn't it? I should also mention that I'm pretty sure this isn't the exact same version that was given, but it's pretty similar, I played with the ending a bit.

A Christmas for She and He
All she’s asked him for,
This Christmas,
Is this poem.
His poem for her.
One might think,
This mounts such crushing pressure,
As to relinquish him of any inspiration whatsoever.
However,
The flattery,
Whether unintended or precisely as according to plan,
Fills yet another void he had forgotten to seal.
Now she ventures across,
His cavernous insecurities,
With harbored grace and class,
Without even needing to watch her feet.
For she had given him,
A path stomped out,
In the deep snow,
Allowing him,
To stay dry in her tracks.
He has long legs,
So he takes,
Small steps,
With a smile,
That signifies his hope,
Of repaying the favor.
Making amends,
Never obligated or even suggested,
But in order to offer the path he treads,
He will take smaller steps,
For shorter legs,
The very same,
That helped her carry him,
Through the deep snow.
Warm and dry,
He is so thankful to have,
His and her,
You and I,
A Christmas for she and he.
