Making Backgrounds Transparent

How do you make the background of an object you are creating transparent. I always get a white or colored background and would like just the object?

For what program do you want to make the background transparent? Windowblinds for example uses the "magic pink" (255/0/255) as a background colour, while other programs like OD use the native transparency of PNG files.

Yeahhh, yepppeeee, the smilies are yellow!!

I downloaded a picture of a "microphone" from the Net. The background is white. When I use it as an object in DesktopX, I would like it to show just as a microphone. I have graphics programs if necessary. What do I do?

You can either erase the back ground, or hand select the the image you want and transfer it to a new tranparent back ground either way it will probablely take a little time. and you might want to zoom in by at least 5x

That's exactly what I've been attempting to do. First I ask DesktopX to create a new object and I get the blue circular object. Then I go to "States" and "Image" and select my picture which I created with a transparent background and when I choose it, it appears with a white background?#@ I'm puzzled. I would like to have a picture of a mike to launch my microphone program, but I can't find any objects of microphones, so I thought it would be easy to create one.
