Firefox?

Well, I may bite, but I would like some trusted opinions first. I read an article that Firefox will be the first "real" successful competition to Internet Explorer, succeeding where Netscape did not. So I want to know:

Why is it better than ie?
What are it's limitations?

I do not have problems with ie, but of course I don't know all of the issues.

Could I get opinions of those that have used both?

Better because it has tabs, themes, extentions, and more secure.
Limitations...some websites that don't use standard CSS coding won't look right, but that's not really Firefox's fault.

It's a better browsing experience...overall. It's better built, easier to customize, has many more options, it's all the little things that make it better. Like the live bookmarks, the toolbar folders, the find bar, all that stuff you can't get with IE.

Make the switch...you won't regret it.

I have used both extensively. In my opinion, you should only use IE if you have to, and the only site you should really have to use it is Windows Update. Anything else, use Firefox. This will reduce the chance of your system being infiltrated, and in general it will make your browsing expreience a more pleasureable one.

It also keeps getting better, for free, while IE is not likely to get any better unless you pay for it or MS are forced to make it better by someone.

I can really recommend just to try it for yourself. It's free, if you don't like it you can just uninstall it. I do recommend it though.

Also, Thunderbird is a great e-mail client.

Simply put, Firefox is awesome. Once you use it for a week or so and figure out all the neat extras you'll never want to go back to IE. In fact it pisses me off when I have to use it, it's kinda like using Windows without WindowBlinds, nothing works right without it.

When you install firefox, you have a basic tabbed browser. Works fast, low resource requirements. The beauty of it is that you can add as many or as few extensions as you wish. Extensions allow you to add to the basic capabilities of firefox in a modular form. There's a ton of them too. You should check it out.

gotta go with the crowd on this one bro..i've been using firefox for a long minute now and its been a smooth ride..like GreenReaper said..IE is for them updates after that ..Firefox all the way..i had too much pop-up problems with IE, with firefox..you wont need dif programs or extra software to kill pop-ups..its automatic..welps my speech is over..if you want a great,fast browser..i reckon you give firefox a howdyhooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Firefox is a nice proggie, but it doesn't have the one feature I use the most in IE....personalized favorites

BTW IE with SP2 installed kills pop-ups

Firefox has favorites...bookmarks, but with IE you can set up personalized favorites which causes IE to hide favorites that haven't been used in a while, but don't want to lose....same deal as the personalized start menu in XP...it's a great feature if you have tons of favorites...mine, I've been collecting since I started using the internet. Didn't mean to mislead you

Downloaded. First thing I notice is that my taskbar is not skinned and the icons of "my favorites are not set to their custom "iconpackager" theme. If I reapply the blinds and IP, will this change?

I downloaded Firefox on a whim a couple of months ago, and it's the browser I use most frequently. The only time I use IE or Netscape is if I really really have to...sometimes some websites aren't Firefox-friendly, and can only be properly viewed in IE or Netscape. But otherwise, it's Firefox all the way...it's so much faster, easier to use, and like others have said, very customizable with the themes and extensions.

As for your question about the icons not having their IP theme...if I'm understanding your question correctly, you don't see the IP theme icons in the Bookmarks menu because Firefox has its own themes you can set. Like right now I'm using the Noia Extreme theme, so when I open my Bookmarks sidebar, the icons that are shown there are part of the Noia Extreme theme, not my Christmas Time IP theme.

well, if you consider that in an atricle a few weeks back ago, the US Goverment asked for everyone to please STOP using IE due to to many security flaws, they ressomneded another browser, and Firefox was on the list (Top of the list, that is)...

No, firefox uses it's own skin settings, so you will need to download and install a good skin for you.

Firefox is my Fav, like others have said I only ever use IE for windows update now, there are far too many reasons why Firefox is a better browser to list them all here.

If a site does not load with Firefox.... screw it, I don't rush to open IE to see it I just give it a miss..
