BootSkin and Windows XP SP2

As many of you know by now, Windows XP SP2 is causing problems when using BootSkin. I read some threads on this issue, but I do not see the solution despite some recommendations.

The problem that I have is with Windows XP SP2 ONLY when installed BEFORE BootSkin is being installed. I think that must be it, because I had Windows XP SP2 installed AFTER installation of BootSkin and I had only minor difficulties but nothing serious.

Right now I'm not able to use BootSkin at all. Reinstallation of BootSkin software doesn't help. Any suggestions are more than welcome.

Is there a plan to make a new version of BootSkin that is fully compatible with SP2?

Simple one. Unistall SP2 and Bootskin. Try installing Bootskin First then SP2. If success, cool! if not try the other way arround

1. Start BootSkin and apply the "Default System Boot Screen".
2. Uninstall BootSkin and restart your computer.
3. Re-install Bootskin.
Start11 - Customize the Start Menu and Taskbar in Windows 10/11.

Sorry to disagree guys but i tried all that and got the same thing No Bootskin. I see the skin load on start up but then my screen goes soild black & windows WILL NOT start normal unless i remove Bootskin program.

Thanks for your posts guys. I tried almost all your suggestions with no effect. I totally agree with Lady D's comment:

To uninstall SP2 and install BootSkin and then install SP2 back, seems to be a bit complicated to me UzEE!!.

If anyone from Stardock is reading this thread, please offer us some help with this problem.

The first thing is to establish definitely whether Bootskin worked at all on your system prior to SP2. That's the reason behind Uzee's suggestion to uninstall SP2.

So..

1. Did it work before SP2?
2. Did you reset Bootskin to default Window bootscreen before installing SP2?
3. After installing SP2, did you try the same Bootskin as was there before SP2?
4. Between steps 2 & 3, what other hardware/software has been installed/uninstalled (if any)?

You need to work through the above steps to narrow down the source of the problem.

I have this problem with system that has had installed SP2 prior to any installation of Stardock software. I just upgraded my HD and I installed Windows XP SP2 before all.

Yes, I followed all the steps above, but BootSkin loads a little bit and then crashes the computer.

When I had the old HD, I installed SP2, when all other software was already on it. That's how I know that there wasn't any problem with Bootskin.

What versions of bootskin are you using. There are 4 Versions of bootskin avaliable to install. each of them produces different results. To test wether bootskin will work on your PC, you need to UnInstall SP2 and then re-install a Bootskin Version. If it works then its OK. if it doesnt, try another. When you find the correct version that works on yur machine then install SP2 and check wether its compatible with SP2 Installed or not. That will clear the Problem Location. Either Hardware or Software (SP2)

If I'm reading you correctly, BSkn worked prior to the new HD.

Uzee!!, I've just spent a great deal of time to create perfect drive image of my PC. It's been for me a big pain in the ... Lots of programs and right now finally 100% updated and to my satisfaction. So, frankly I'm not looking toward the possibility of uninstalling my SP2.

I tried all versions of BootSkin, but non works on my system. There is only one problem, the software must be having some problems when installed on a machine with SP2 on it.

I need help with solving the problem. Imagine that you've bought a new computer that has installed the SP2 on it. The step to solve the problem should not be in uninstalling the SP2 to make it work. (just a thought)

Yes, but if you look at Microsoft's release notes about SP2 it warns you that it does break some software as well as creating issues with other s/w.

RTFM is called for, I think.

FWIW, I installed XP Pro and SP2 on a new machine before installing any SD programs (including bootskins). The only problem I had was limited user access to WB but that was easily fixed.

Bootskins works fine.

You probably need to try Bootskin 0.75a
