It will of course depend on what type of weather is being shown in the little window - but regardless, when the postal is covered up by a window, cpu useage should be at a minimum, with only the audio impacting on it to any degree.

#35 by JourneyMan _Martin_ - 9/9/2004 6:26:40 AM I'm looking at updates now Chris.I've never experienced issues with walls not changing in testing. Are you using XP? Are you using any wallpaper changing apps? Please mail me directly to continue this

Sorry, I've been out of internet range for a while.

You have mail

One more observation, it doesn't work through a proxy/firewall configuration... Here at my office, we use a proxy server configuration like "proxyserver.company.com", which will then prompt you for login & PW on trying to access outside the local WAN, but I've yet to see a DX object or widget that's "proxy aware", or even have a place to config a "username:password@proxyserver.company.com:port" type of setting.

One of the main attractions in purchasing this was to use on my office system, but it's completely useless with no network connection.

Hey, just for the record, I want to know if I bought this for someone, do they have to also download the free version of DX???

Sent e-mail to Martin.

How and where does ND get installed so that it starts on a reboot? Right now on my machine it is in a temp folder in documents and settings and doesn't start on a rebbot, I have to "reinstall" and it goes to a new temp folder.

Other than that ND looks fine.

Well, bought it, so I hope it works properly. Fingers crossed.

Wow, I'm impressed. Only 1% CPU.

As with everyone else, not sure about the wall. But otherwise, very nice. I hope it's development continues apace

Also, how would it react to being imported into DX2? A good idea or not?

I found "autorun" (right click on portal color) so that is working now.

Spoke too soon, now left or right click on the portal does nothing and the sounds just stopped. I hate the sound of silence, but I do like the record. I really don't want to have to reinstall ND for every use!

I was just thinking that I would like just as much a natural desktop that made use of only one  image.  The change would come from a gradual dimming at night to a brightening in the morning. Stars could come out...The sounds are nice, but those crickets sound out of place in the snow.  Maybe it would be nice to have a selections of quality sounds.  Then someone could choose from a menu... birds of the north/south.  Wolf calls.. crickets, wind blows, brook runs, rain falling, thunder ... stuff like that.  Seems like it would take less resources to have occasional random sounds. Then some kind of order... random, random X2.  Maybe also have a selection for rain or snow falling (like those snowflakes someone made this Christmas).  It would seem more natural maybe,  more adaptable to a persons own dreams.

Of course include the options to choose ones own wallpaper.

I kinda like this thing - it would be better with pictures of gum trees, roos and HR Holden utes but I'm sure that'll come...
Only problem I have is that every so often the weather thingy in the top right hand corner karks it (crashes)and politely asks if I would like to tell Microsnot what I was doing at the time...

Hi All......

I have purchased this beauty, downloaded it and start it.

but I have some issues with it.

1. In email, stardock has provided me with serial. but after clicking the exeuctable, program starts automatically and doesn't ask about entering serial and starts directly.

2. I have choice of just two wallpapers. Where are the rest???

I have the same... I'm guessing this is just because it's a teaser and nothing else. Though I'm probably wrong.

Great little DX Widget. Well worth the price

Frogboy mentions in this thread...
As you can imagine, there' are a LOT of wallpapers in there....and a ton of different wallpapers

There are 16 1152x864 *JPG wallpapers included that represent four parts of the day, morning, day, evening and night for the four seasons, spring, summer, autumn and winter. You'll have to decide if that is a ton of wallpapers or not for yourself. For me, for the price, it's pretty darn reasonable at only 50-cents a wall, not even considering what the animated weather portal itself is worth.

To see all the walls, go into display properties, display tab, highlight the current Natural Desktop wall and hit browse. This is the easiest way to get to the temp folder housing all the walls.

The animations in the weather portal are awesome and there is a lot of detail to it. I only wish there was an option for a smaller frame...maybe just the black circular frame that's around it and a way to move it.

The only problem I have with this widget is when you restart it. Every time you restart it, Norton's thinks it's a new proggie trying to access the internet and I have to answer the Norton Warning Window. I think it's because the folder the *exe creates is temporary, Where as other DX weather objects I've used, I've only had to answer to Norton's just the first time it's run.

Whoever put this together...Martin?...did a great job and I'm glad I bought it

But what is use of serial provided by SD?

Whoever put this together...Martin?

Digital Blasphemy made the walls, Mason Fischer created the sounds, I made the weather widget and _Martin_ integrated the whole lot into a coherent theme

One complaint I have are the wall resolutions, at 1600x1200 they look terrible, especially the Digital Blasphemy text.

After a period of use of the sneak peak, I really hope some of the change's goodmorphing mentioned can be intergrated.

Thanks Tiggz for the info

Means it is only a test version. We will have the full version in future. and for that version SD has provided a serial. Am I right?
I am pretty sure that this is the full version
Reply #73 Top
If it is the full version why does it install to a temp file?

When I reboot ND doesn't.

When I reinstall it creates a new temp file.

The sounds quit.

I deleted 5 different temp files of it yesterday.

Looking for answers, or what am I doing wrong?

Put the Natural Desktop.exe file you downloaded in a permanent place. I put mine in with the rest of my DX widgets. After it is up and running, right-click on the glass orb of the weather object and select auto-run. This saves settings and places a shortcut in your Startup File. If you move the .exe, then you have to start all over again.

I've rebooted a few times with no issues, other than the one with Nortons I mentioned early.

Hey i got an idea. Get off your butt and go outside every once in a while. I've heard that, yes, things do change naturally outdoors.
