ObjectDock Plus 1.02e bug with opening MS Offce shortcuts

I have placed a couple of shortcuts to .DOC and .XLS files on a tabbed dock. Clicking on them opens the corresponding documents.

However, with Outlook 2003 this doesn't work. A workaround is to do a right click and choose Open from the contextual menu.

Closing Outlook 2003 solves the problem. Restarting OD doesn't.

I use Word as the editor in Outlook.

Is there anybody who can help with this? Is this some leftover from the Outlook 2003 problem you had before?

Many thanks for your help,

Paul.

at least for the doc shortcuts it sounds like you have ed the option to re-use existing programs when a link is clicked. When you use word as your editor in Outlook it leaves a winword.exe process running, probably for the preview window. Try killing that process and see if you are able to launch the doc shortcuts. Check the Advanced options and see if you have this option checked:

When shortcut is run, if program is already running bring it to the foreground only

If this is checked try unchecking it to see if it fixes the problem.

Thanks for the quick response, f0r3.

However, I did not enable the option you are talking about. I checked.

Surely, if I kill WINWORD.EXE everything works just fine. The idea would be to be able to use the dock shortcuts without having to do that.

Another interesting thing happens (probably not connected to Outlook): I can run ONE Excel shortcut. When I try to open a second worksheet from the dock, nothing happens and the tabbed dock will become unresponsive for more than 5 seconds. Another untabbed dock I have works just fine.

I guess it's yet another headache from MS Office. Looks like the dock "shortcuts" are not really shortcuts in the Windows sense, as these seem to be indifferent to Outlook.

Anyway, I'm not trying to make your life harder. But being the CEO of a software publishing house myself, I really am curious how you're going to solve this.

Thanks again,

Paul.

you might want to post about this on the news server in the ObjectDock group as the programmer for OD frequents that group. I'm not employed by StarDock, just an avid user you might say.. It really sounds like OD is trying to re-use your existing processes instead of launching a new one like it's supposed to. It works fine for me here, did you by any chance install OD+ over the standard OD? I've seen some strange behaviour with docks that were created with the standard OD under OD+.. Anyway, good luck!
