more problems with my laptop

unusual problem !!

wincustomize is cool! how nice to see you all once again here...

ok, long back, if anyone remembers, i had requested a solution to one problem with my

laptop...: in WinXP when i try to fullscreen my DOS window (applications especially) it

gets STUCK. but it doesnt get stuck if i run COMMAND.com or CMD.exe in fullscreen.

i have also noticed something really nasty. when i start my computer, i heard the music

lalalalalallllaaa... (WinXP default) quite after sometime ONLY. in the mean time, my

desktop is loaded and i can see my icons in the system tray. now, before the music

plays, i immediately ran a dos APP in fullscreen mode, VOILA!! it worked! nothing got

stuck! it was amazing. but after sometime, the app hanged. so, i guess its not a problem

with my laptop, but its some APP thats causing this stupid problem. well, i am not able

to figure out which app! i have disabled Norton AV and still, the problem is hanging

around. so norton is not the one. so which one is it? i am confused! please help!!

thanks!!

ALso, there is one more stupid problem!
when i connect to the internet, after connecting, for few seconds, the computer is

ALMOST stuck. then the messenger signs in. i figured out why. when i connect to the

internet, an instance of SVCHOST.exe uses 100% CPU usage and then it calms down. whats

going on here??

Vimal...

System:
WinXP SP1 Original
Acer 1600 series Laptop
P IV 2.8 Gig. 256MB DDR.SDRAM

i hope these configs are enough

256meg of ram is not overly sufficient...and won't be helping XP much.

Perhaps you need to set your dos proggies in a suitable 'compatibility mode'...eg Win98 [XP doesn't have a native dos]...

you mentioned NAV... do you happen to have NIS also?
If not do you have any process viewer that will allow you to see what is actually making port connections?

TaskInfo2003 will allow you to see what is running under the generic svchost process, what port(s) it is using and what exactly is pegging your CPU...

In your cmd.exe properties, compatibility, try running setting the window to 640x480 and 256 colours. DOS isn't really meant to run at huge resolutions and will most certainly eat up your graphics when re-sizing.

well, my DOS DOES work in fullscreen. but there is "some" process which loads a bit later and then stops DOS from working. this is what i mean:

i start my computer. i hear the lalala (WinXP). immediately i open my DOS app in fullscreen, and i am able to work with it (for about 10 seconds). no problems. but after sometime, it gets stuck. and then, i forcefully close this app. again, i open this app and it stops working immediately. this time (second time) i am not even able to use it for even 1 second. so, this is what is pinching...

Fuzzy, i am trying out that now...

so, i want to know which app is diabling me working smoothly with DOS.

Jafo, i tried those things out! not working!!

Whats NIS? i dont know!
i guess its some program which is uh...stupid

Thanks!
