Once I (we) finish ironing our some compatibility and porting issues with mission critical web apps, I'm deploying FireFox 1.0 enterprise-wide. Even with all the patches (witch we're religious about deploying), so much stuff (hijackers, bogus search helpers, downloaders, etc.) comes through with IE it's just pathetic. It is MUCH better with SP2, but it's still no Firefox...or Mozilla....or Opera....

Quite the oppisite... with my high speed connection and my tough firewall I don't really care what browser I use because on such a fast connection everything is fast including IE. As far as security issues: I have nothing of value stored on my PC so I care not about that too.

all abrowser needs to do is view a web page.

that being said.. ease of use, and a wide range of compatability, should be the foremost featers of any web browser. not extra bells and whistles that only a limited field of browsers can use.

A firewall won’t do squat in protecting you from the holes in IE. For instance, yesterday I had hundreds of threat warning (infection attempts) pop-ups on my AV console at work. Our IE installations are patched religiously, and there are numerous firewalls and router ACLs. Even with all those security measures, these attempts (http://news.com.com/Researchers+warn+of+infectious+Web+sites/2100-7349_3-5247187.html?tag=nl) still got through. The only thing that saved our ass was Symantec AV Corp. and updated virus defs. The only infection attempts that were noted were users that use IE. No attempts were recorded for users of Firefox, Mozilla, Opera, etc.

So you use one of the most insecure browser by choice? Also, I'm not sure about the others, but browers based on the Mozilla codebase are slower at rendering pages than IE. It has very little to do with the speed of your connection.

With the widespread infections of trojans noted in the article linked to above, your and usernames, passwords, credit card info, etc. could have been compromised simply by USING the computer…it has nothing to do with storage of information. Also, by your statement, I guess your time isn’t very important to you…the time it would take to fix, restore, or rebuild your system when you get hit.

I use Norton internet security and have been very happy with the results. When I started using it, the browser I used was IE. I now use firefox mostly because I cant live without mouse gestures. Security is still behind my norton firewall. Another reason for Norton Internet security is because of my wireless network here at home.

I use Firefox 0.9 as well but I have a simple problem. Whenever I click on a link within SD-central the page gets opened with IE instead of Firefox. I have Firefox set as the default browser and I told SD-central to use the "default Windows web browser for Internet links" but SD-central insists on calling IE.

Any Ideas anyone? Sorry for the hijacking..

Check "Use Stardock Central Browser" for internet connections in the SDC settings....

aufisch... I reported that problem months ago, and got nowhere. If you want the links to open in any thing other than IE or the SDC browser (same thing), you have to do the copy and paste dance.

There was a similar thread recently. I thought someone said in there that Stardock Central will only launch in IE. There was also something in there about even Mozilla and Opera browsers being susceptible to new some hijacker variants.
