WindowBlinds & Download.com flaming!

WindowBlinds needs our help! Every time a new version of WindowBlinds shows up, a group of its detractors shows up and begins trashing it. The quality of WindowBlinds is high enough that they don't fully succeed in smearing it but it ends up always having a distinctly lower approval rating than it should.

I wouldnt worry too much. Winblinds has like 6,850,000 downloads and is only second to webshots which is a great wallpaper/screen saver program. I've used it for almost 10 years. I just looked and winblinds is up to 79 percent and climbing.

Well from off the beaten path my opinion pokes out on this topic...

I have listened to, read, and watched over the last couple of years about the Good and Bad that people have run into with running Stardock Applications.

I''ve come to some pretty simple conclusions:

1. Those who purchase ODNet and run Betas need to pull their heads out their collective butts when a Beta release does not function on all systems (theirs specifically) as prescribed. It is not Faulty programming and it is not open season on Stardock or the Programmers because of some bug. Downloading and installing Beta software means one of two things. 1. you like to play 2. you like to play and are willing to share what you run into in a productive manner to help bring a product to Public Release. There is a 3 rd that get''s to me and makes me have to sit on my hands more times than not ( they like to play and the bitch and complain when a beta program does not function as prescribed and the only input they have is to do this in public as if it is an actual Released Application. ( for those people, get a grip... Don''t dwnld and inst Betas, in fact wait at least a week before upgrading to a new release to see what might or might not take place... Or, go away, mad, sad or indifferent doesn''t really matter to me, just go away )

2. Public input into the evolution of the applications is openly accepted and even requested more times than not.

3. Hardware is changing constantly, it is not static which means that there are always going to be issues with certain drivers and system configurations. Give it some time and seek help. Sooner or later it will come around and until that time you can always roll back to the last version that worked on your system.

4. I am still at a loss with those who Pay money for a Hack, which I am pretty sure has some reverse engineering added to it. Again it is very simple, Why do people PAY someone for the right to Hack your Operating System breaking the EULA which could put you in a position of having no support from Microsoft if they find out?

5. I like Stardock, I like the people, I like the applications and I like those who take part in the forums. yes at times it gets no better than bickering Bananas at the Malt Shop. But in the end people come back around full circle and things settle down into a group of people enjoying System Modification and time spent online with others.

There are things I find klunky with the products and there are things I wish would be added. There are also things which I do not find anyone else doing better and in fact doing a much worse job of.

I just wish I could stay focused long enough to get into trying some of the ideas of pushing things to the limit with the apps, skinning and corporate branding.

Then again Talk is Cheap and comes easy...

Not what I heard and witnessed.

But it's been awhile since I have used it.

Kona:
I have gotten spyware installed through webshots. I had to manually remove the spyware and everything is fine now. The spyware is relatively new to the program and it did piss me off conciderably. Webshots is still a great screen saver to view your photos or photos off their website

OK well I don't have any photos and I use no screensaver so I guess I am SOL!! But thank you anyways. Much appreciated.

wait a second...

How in the hell do you expect a program to function for managing Screen Savers off the web without accessing the web?

boggling....

Spyware?

Click: Load Program : Program Loaded : Check Connetion : Connection Good : Ready to download and or access Libraries : < Spyware?

I could understand if it led you through to JobBlowYourConnection to the World, or LetsCompileInfoOnYou.com... but...

If you want a program with Internet access ability and functions to manage any damn thing on your system then denouncing same program as spyware is rather inane...

No John it comes bundled with OTHER spyware. But you make a good point.

The webshots program installed adware on my computer. It may be needed to access all aspects of webshots but it is still accessing info on your computer and sending that info to a website. That is what spyware is. Webshots funtions just fine without allowing the adware to access the net. So why is it installing?

Spent 4 hours yesterday removing 'webshots' along with other 'nasties' off my Neice's computer.....4 separate infestations of crud that turned the comp into a slug....with a limp....

#42-44, then I would be upset and also question it without a doubt.

Has anyone addressed it with WebShots? I do not use anything from them except space now and then for displaying the odd screen shot on a link.

Personally Screen Savers tend to annoy me more than anything, ever since windows 3...

and they REALLY pissed Lantastic off
