Start11v2 Not showing icon of app

Hello!

I have a problem with Start11 when using the enhancer option -> one of my apps shows a blank icon (Kanali Software). There isn't any problems when I disable the enhancer option

Winver:


Using windhack but there are no modules active. No other apps.

I tried to reinstall startv11, clean cache icon and same behaviour. This is the only app with such a problem



I thought that maybe because the icon is saved as an tray_32.ico?

Any help is greatly appreciated :)

Sorry to hear you are having issues. Unfortunately, I can not reproduce your issue on my Windows 11 system. Refer screenshot below.

Perhaps, something went wrong while you installing Kanali? Have you tried rebooting the system?

Hello! I reinstalled everything -> start11, kanali, rebooted, used BCUninstaller to clear any leftovers... same behaviour... 

Also: I tried on other 2 PCs -> one was working as expected, but one had the same bug as me... So, I think there should be something? It's not isolated

The icon(s) provided by Kanali Software only come in four sizes 256x256, 48x48, 32x32 & 16x16. My guess why it's working on one computer and not another, is that their display scaling and/or taskbar icons size are set differently. This means that the reason you see a blank icon is limitations in icon sizes in the Kanali Software.

So, in conclusion... there is no easy fix I guess, tried to change icon size to different values but still had the same result

If Windhawk is installed, note that it may influence taskbar behavior even when no modules are enabled. To rule it out, uninstall the application, reboot the system, and retest.

For the second PC experiencing the same problem, please check if Windhawk is installed there as well.

Hi, the 2nd one did not have Windawk nor any other Taskbar programs.

I did uninstall it on mine but unfortunately no success :(

Perhaps you can set the missing icons manually. 

Right click on Kanali taskbar button->Right click on Kanali on the context menu->Click on Properties->Click on Shortcut tab on Kanali Properties windows.->Click on change icon->Browse to that "tray_32.ico" file-> Select it-> Press OK. and see if that one work.

Unfortunately no I changed it to default one and also another Icon that shows correctly and still nope :/.

I reinstalled Windows on 2nd PC (since I don't use it very often) and still same behaviour with kanali....

I created a complete Windows icon for Kanali and you can download it from my OneDrive here.

Try changing the icon to this one and see if it displays correctly. :grin:

:( Nope... Tried it even with Resource Hacker to change the .EXE one an still the same

Just a small update -> using resource hacker to change ico will change it (can be seen when enhancer is off and also when hovering over app) but still, the taskbar icon is still not visible...

As a test, enable the enhanced taskbar and set "Taskbar button combining" to "Never combine."

Now in "Taskbar button appearance > Taskbar button text," select "Always hide text on buttons regardless of group state."

Does this display the correct icon on the taskbar?

I don't know what else to suggest. Maybe Basj can guide you further, but since he can not reproduce the issue, and it doesn't appear on one of your PC's, it has to be something specific on your system. There is a newer version of the OS 26200.6901.

Sorry for the late reply, I tried with another administrator account + minimal setup (stopping every service and just running the stardock one -> had to enable it manually, the script provided is not updated with the name of real service) 

And the exact same behaviour.... showing all right when not using enhancer and not working when enabled

If you install both apps on a Windows Sandbox, on the same PC, do you see the same issue?

Yeah, when I use it in sandbox mode, it appears as it should...
Damn, the problem is something in my system.... but I just can't figure it out why only and only this app is causing so much trouble
