Norton or McAfee?

I have Norton...It does the job

They're both good... use either one.

My son was a programmer for McAfee and even while he worked there I still used Norton. He uses Norton now too...

Because they are not equal in all areas, and if I need to get something off one of the our clients desktops before it runs rampant throughout their internal network (intranet) client desktops I need to do it now, not when the one who (Mcafee or Norton) is still working on a fix comes out with it.

...which led me to Norton...

...which finally led me to AVG Anti-virus

norton. we've got mcafee at work and i promptly replaced my computers copy with norton they update it more often, and the symantic guys seem more on top of new technologies then mcafee.

while the entire office is infected with something, i sit back and just hum at my pretty little norton gears.

I have only used Norton.
They seem to do a very good job.

I use AVG from www.grisoft.com there is a free version 6 or a pay for version 7, the last time I looked 7 was $33.30 for 2 years. It works and has a small footprint. Doesn't mess with my system like those other 2 did.

Before there was an internet McAfee was the only virus scanner around. They had a BBS based out of Mt Veiw CA where you could go read about viruses and get your computer scanned.  At that time Norton was the premiere utilities package and Xtree and PC Tools were hot on their heels. McAfee did a lot to bring anti-virus software into being.

but Microsoft did more than anyone to make anti-virus software a reality... (necessity)

Norton on my desktop and McAfee on my Laptop

If I had a gun to my head and had to choose, I would pick Norton because they do seem to update more often than McAfee and I've had it longer(4yrs.)than McAfee(1yr.)I guess I'm just more comfortable with it because I've had it so long.

I tried McAfee early on, but I quickly switched to Norton and have stayed with Norton...very easy to use.

NIS Pro... hands down...

people will spit, laugh, cry and whine, stomp their feet and throw their teddy in the corner. But, I go with what works best and all of the systems under contractual care up and down the east coast of the united states run NIS Pro hands down. Dealing with the government and the Bureau of Primary Health Care "Tommy Thompson's" division in many instances leaves no choice but to be picky as hell.

My wife is on a consulting gig in Houston until Sunday researching EMR products as a matter of fact.

Having to ensure that systems are locked down without compromising connectivity on the client side. Also having to make sure that EMR is secure to meet HIPAA standards and doing this for city, county and state wide non profit clinical networks with remote sites all filtering through to the co-lo data center in Tampa Florida makes one picky in whom they entrust such things.

Do I seriously have a preference? yes, Norton, do I also use Mcafee? yes, because if all you have is a hammer you end up driving screws like nails.

indeed mcafee was first, and i swore by that as a necessety until along came symantic buying up norton. that shield always gave me problems on my 98 machine and i just never went back. 'sides.. get your self system works or a norton firewall and it comes with antivirus. 20$ a year isn't bad considering you find out first hand what its going towards.

AntiVir Guard. Free, and it works better than both.
