Upgrade Fences 4 -> Fences 6 Windows Black Screen

Fences Parallels W10 on iMac

I have upgraded Fences 4 to Fences 6 for a W10 installation that runs under Parallels on an iMac. I didn't want to loose my Fences 4. That's why I installed Fences 6 over Fences 4 without deinstallation. The update process showed no problems. After restarting W10 as the last step of installation W10 shoot down but did not resume properly. There was only a black screen without any function or login window. Fortunately I had a Parallels snapshot available and I set W10 back to this snapshot and I received back the state with Fences 4 installed. I have no idea of the reason of this problem.

Fences 6 (multi device license) upgrade process from Fences 4 (multi device):

1. check upgrade elegibility -> yes

2. download updater of Fences 6

3. installation of Fences 6 with running Fences 4 in the proposed standard directory (is this wrong?)

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Do know that if you uninstall Fences 4 before installing Fences 6. Your setting will not be change. However if you wish to be safe, you can use this guide to save your setting before uninstalling Fences 4. https://support.stardock.com/space/SHC/1416429609/Backup+of+Fences+Configuration+Settings

After you have done that, please try, uninstall Fences 4, reboot immediately (important), download latest Fences 6 version available in your account product download page: https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products. Install it, reboot immediately again. Retest it and report back.

Hello Basj

Thanks for your fast answer. All steps you described are clear. But I have the problem to uninstall fences 4. The uninstall procedure can only work properly with non active fences task. I can't find a process-id of stardock fences 4 in the task manager to kill the process. I've also deactivated the 2 entries in the task scheduler. Fences starts again after every reboot.

The normal uninstall should work. But, if that do not work. Please try purge and reinstall steps as mention here : [Link]. Reboot after the purge. Install Fences 6 and reboot again after the installation. Retest and report back here.

Fences 6 is successful installed. Before running the suggested purge routine I tried out installing Fences 6 installation procedure without following the hint first to stop Fences 4 before continuing the installation routine.

In German language

Translated text in turn: This program will deinstall Fences 4. If Fences 4 runs right now than shutdown it please, before you continue the deinstallation process. Else click on continue (weiter). 

That's why I tried to continue the deinstallation process on the basis of an inactive Fences 4, aborted the deinstallation process  and found no solution to deinstall Fences 4 with an inactive Fences 4.

Today I didn't abort the deinstallation but clicked on continue and all run without any problems. Even my window layout was saved corresponding to the unchecked checkbox to remove the settings. In my opinion this phrase has confused me. Because my experience is to follow the given hints to avoid further problems.
