Is start11 no longer being supported or will problem with taskbar icons getting corrupt ever be fixed? - Resolved.

I posted about this before a couple times at least and also even responded with videos when requested to do so. That was months ago. I thought that would do the trick with regard to getting the bug addressed. However, the bug still exists and is extremely aggravating. So much so that it has me considering ditching Start11 entirely. I'm not doing anything fancy with my taskbar, all I use start11 for is to give me a Windows 7 style start menu.

The problem is simple: various of the icons showing for certain of the apps on my taskbar come to no longer reflect the corresponding app. Sometimes there are two of the same icons showing on the same taskbar. Essentially, the taskbar becomes corrupt and unusable.

The easiest way to fix this is to restart explorer.exe in Task Manager. This has the unpleasant side effects of closing all my current File Explorer windows. I usually have several of these open at least. So it's a really inconvenience. Besides, I paid for the software and kind of expected that reported bugs would be fixed. In a timely manner. This bug is aggravating enough and I imagine it affects enough people so that it could get priority.

Can somebody tell me what the status on this bug is please? And should I ever expect for it to be fixed? Thank you very much.

The problem with clicking the Word icon on the taskbar creating a blank document has recurred and I have captured it on video. Here it is:

I have no idea how to recreate this, since it evidently comes and goes. It does seem to require having other documents already open, but this does not always cause the phenomenon. Sorry to be the harbinger of so much bad news.

I have experienced icons being mapped to the wrong app from the Enhanced Taskbar. This was the behavior I was getting with the regular Windows Taskbar which caused me to switch to the Enhanced Taskbar in the first place. As you'll see in the video below, Enhanced Taskbar has the icon for Word mapped to the Scrivner App, Excel mapped to Access ... and so on.

I wish I could say how to recreate this but, like other weirdness I have been reporting, this just seemed to "happen" for no reason. Other than doing some word processing using Word, Scrivner and File Explorer, all I've done today is use an SSH client (Kitty) and an X server (VcXsrv) to connect to a couple of Raspberry Pi devices. Nothing fancy. The problem I'm reporting here did happen within an hour or so of my reporting the issue where clicking on the Word icon brought up blank Word documents rather than display thumbnails of open Word documents. Though I have no idea whether the two problems are related.

One might suggest that a virus was involved, but I use Malwarebytes and ran a complete system scan within the past week. I think I will run another scan today just to be sure. If I encounter any viruses, I will let you know.

Sorry for more bad news, here's the video:

Hello,
There is a newer version. Start11v2.71 Beta released recently, if you have not try it yet, please do. Please do the uninstall, reboot, download and install new one and reboot again. Retest it and report back.

Note: We need to know your current Windows 11 full version and OS Build number. Use Winver.exe.

Thank you,

Basj,

Thanks for the info about the beta version. I will follow the steps you suggest and report back as requested. Since the symptoms I have reported don't show up immediately, it may be from a few days to a week before I have results.  Meanwhile, here is the winver information requested:

Windows 11 Pro Version 25H2 Build 26200.8328

Okay, I have just encountered clicking "Calculator" bringing up File Explorer again. Same thing happens if I click "MSPaint". Seeing as both these belong to Windows, I also tried pinning "Character Map" to see if I got the same result, but I did not -- it yields the correct app when clicked. I'm not attaching a video right now because it would look just like the one I've already sent.

I did the uninstall / reinstall sequence exactly as you specified, but it occurs to me that I did not use the purge tool. I was directed to use this last year (I think?) when I started having trouble with the non-enhanced taskbar. Would you suggest I uninstall according to your instructions, run the purge tool, install as you've instructed, and try again? If you think it might make a difference, I am willing to try.

(I have not yet encountered the other issue, where clicking on the icon for the already-opened Word app yields a blank document rather than showing thumbnails of open documents.)

Thanks!
