Removed fences keep being restored

Removed a fence 3 months ago and each time I start the computer, it shows up.

Deleted all backups and still it keeps showing up.

If I go into Fences and do a "Restore backup", it appears again but it is NOT in the backup picture

Every NEW fence I create, NEVER gets saved in a new "Save backup" but the new ones show on the backup picture.

Deleted Fences and installed 8.89 Rev.3 and that did not help either.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. But from what I know there is no Version 8.89 yet. The latest Fences is V6 Beta 2. Please recheck. Also, please post more details on your system.

  1. Windows 10 or 11? Also need its full version and OS Build number. Please use Winver.exe.
  2. Fences version installed.
  3. Post a video showing us how your removed a Fence?
  4. Do you have the Fences lock?

Thank you,

Greetings.

Running Win 11 Pro 24H2 build 26100.3915

Fence version is 5.89 (Rev 3). In error, I hit the "8" instead of the "5" key on keypad.

The lock feature is no longer part of ver. 5 but I did find this and installed it but I cannot find the "Lock" option.

As I cannot save new fences, the lock feature may be the problem.

I do not know how to send a video so here is a screen shot. I click on the "Remove Fence" and it is gone until the next time I start the computer or open Fences.

Did you see this when you right click on the desktop? If you not, did you changed/mod your right click menu to open up as Windows 10 style menu?

When I right click on my desktop, this is what I see:

Then I click on configure Fences and this is what I see:

Have no idea of what you are talking about changing to Win 10 style menu and see no option to change menu options.

If you look at my right click menu and compare it to your right click menu, I can see that you're actually not on default Windows 11 right click menu. Notice the rounder corner and icons appear on view, sort etc. Also there is "Show more option" at the bottom of that Windows 11 right click menu. All these were not on your right click menu. Hense you're having the Old Windows 10 right click menu. I can't tell you how you get to that, but you will need to revert back to default Windows 11 right click menu. Than you will have the "lock fences" item.

Now I understand that I need to go back to Windows 11 menu (I assume Fences Win 11 menu, not Microsoft Win 11) but I see no option on how to do that.

Please advise on how to get back to the correct menu.

Thank you

I can not tell you how, since I don't know how you changed that menu from default Windows 11 menu to Windows 10 style menu, there are several methods to do it, not sure which one you use when you change that. Please undo those changes.

You stated to "Please undo those changes". I did not make any changes. I would have no reason to change back to Windows 10 menu.

I am confused as to what menu you talking about. Is it something in Fences or in the actual Microsoft Windows app?

Its Microsoft Windows 11 desktop right click menu, when you right click on Windows 11 desktop. It should be the same menu appear when you right click inside your Fences. Portal Fences have different right click menu. But, right click on desktop should look something like my video below. And from your screenshot your desktop menu showing different style menu. Which close to Windows 10 style menu.

Hi ComputerGuy_1387, could you submit your logs for further review?

Perhaps do this a few times:

(1) Before removing a Fence

(2) After removing a Fence

(3) After rebooting when it returns

You can say which of the scenarios it is in the comments when making the error package

You can access this via the "About" pane of the settings, then click on the "Troubleshooting" link and then "Create error report package for technical support". There may be some advantage of checking the box "Enable advanced logging", but it should be fine without too.

Thanks for the help

I solved the problem by deleting Fences, including the setting, and re-installed it and all works just fine now.
