New Issue with Start 11 after latest windows updates

I reinstalled Windows 11 Pro recently, updated windows, everything... and suddenly the taskbar becomes un-clickable, desktop unclickable, hovering windows from bar flashing on screen and clock not updating... I would constantly have to restart explorer.exe to fix it... I uninstalled Start11 and the issues went away.

This may be a coincidence and not even related to this but i felt I should mention since at the moment it's not happened since uninstalling Start 11.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need to know few things.

  1. Windows 11 full version and OS Build number. Please use Winver.exe.
  2. Start11 full version number.
  3. Have you tried, uninstall Start11, reboot immediately (important), download latest version available in your account product download page: https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products? Install it, reboot immediately again. Retest it and report back.

Thank you,

Latest version of Start 11, I'll try that reinstall / reboot this morning and get back to you.

Question, would you recommend I install Start11 or Start11 v2?

If you did purchased Start11v2, you should go with Start11v2 for better compatibility with current Windows 11 version.

Great thanks.

Interesting thing happened.

1. Install Start11 v2

2. Register with product key successfully and prompted to reboot

3. Reboot

4. Upon reboot, Start 11 not installed

5. Install Start 11, not prompted to reboot

So, it's now working and I will update if the issue occurs again.

Unfortunately, it's doing it again.  taksbar programs flashing and taksbar unclickable

Possible point of interest -- I set the start11 v2 taskbar > size from medium to small, and it fixed the issue, for now... as it seems restarting explorer does fix it briefly.

Where is your taskbar positioned?

Also do you have any software which might alter the taskbar position or add in extra bars or reserve desktop space?

You might want to try v2.52 beta too.

Ok interesting... I closed a few tabs in my browser and it started freaking out again. Changing the task bar sizing / resetting explorer.exe fixed it again.

Next time it happens can you have explorer open and under details see what gdi and user handles explorer is using?

Also where is your taskbar positioned?

This just started happening to me today as well. Clicking the taskbar menu does nothing unless I close some apps or click several times.

p.s., I don't know if it will help, but I have found the issue is predominant on the left-side, secondary display running at 150% scale.  See screenshot below...

Basj,   Per your instruction(s), I uninstalled (with settings deletion / removal), rebooted, reinstalled (new beta version: 2.52.3), and rebooted again.  The issue returned as soon as "Let Start11 enhance the taskbar" was turned on.  Also, I enabled this setting and noted the issue, before restoring my personalized settings.

Looking at your screenshot, what am I looking at? please elaborate,

  1. This is on two monitors with same resolution and same scale 150% on both?
  2. One monitor with maximize Window, another with none, taskbar look different? Is this your issue? If so, please look into these settings.

Basj,   No; no.  Sorry to confuse you.  Both displays are 1080p, but the left is scaled at 150%, while the right is scaled at 100%.  The issue is still the flashing / hanging when the "previews" / thumbnail is activated by hovering over the icons on the left display taskbar.  Yes, the taskbar on the left has a maximized window, while the one on the right has no app window.  I was just trying to show you my configuration, for you to attempt reproduction...again, sorry if that was confusing.  Yes; I'm familiar with the blur, color, etc...settings, so no problem there.

As a quick test, if you change the scale to 100% on both, the issue don't show up?

Basj,   While the previews / thumbnails do still "jitter" sometimes, this change does seem to prevent the screen(s) from ceasing to react to the cursor actions; i.e., "hanging up".  So, this is progress that should narrow down the issue...I'm guessing something was changed in 24H2's HAL / implementation of display scaling?  Tell DEV, we said good luck, and keep up the great work!

Which Start11 version currently running in your system?

I've been having the same problem for over a week. What's working for me is temporarily switching the scale to a different percentage then switching it back. This only works for a little while then the issues start up again. We need to find a permanent solution to this because it does not happen when i uninstall Start11.
