Visual Style skins that really need to be ported over to WindowsBlinds

Here are a few skins I found online that really need to be ported over WindowBlinds !

As for the request, it is in the eye of the watcher. I personally don't see anything special about those styles that makes me want to port them. We have far better WB Skins similar to them already here. There are very good and different VS's ported by Pas (Snideley) on this site, though.

Intersting statement

Not really .... and I must admit that I avoid them (StyleXP-TG Soft) like Volvo drivers .... but it has been a while since I looked over the selection.
I found the number of 'Beta' skins with minor tweaks becoming 'V.1 - V.1.01 ad nauseum' a total bore and the so-called variations on 'Longhorn' totally underwhelming ..... but, as I mentioned, a very small number were great.
If I wanted Mr Gates 'Leggo Look' I'd just turn WB off and run the default XP scheme.
Some skins I would regard well worth updating to the present standard, the original XP Cobalt, XP Charcoal and the other XP series, Zooper Chrome or Yellow Mac only lack the 2004 features.

Personally, most of the themes I'd like to see ported are usually picked up by Snidely and he does a great job picking out the very best to port over. I use them almost exclusively on my work system because I like to keep my interface as clean and un-obtrusive as possible.. But I agree, there is very little creativity in most of the XP styles, and that is simply a sign of the limitations placed on skins that use the XP skinning engine. I'll stick with WB myself!

And therein lies the reason for WB's superiority...

Tastes vary so there are some .msstyles I like and many I don't care very much for. Just as with WindowBlinds, although WB allows for more flexibility in design than .msstyles. But I'd venture that a good creative skinner is still a good creative skinner regardless of the tools used. The software alone doesn't make the skin. (Although .msstyles imposes more limitations on the author.)

Anyway, here's one of Snidely's ports of Kol's work https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=1&SkinID=3873 (Just one of several of SW's ports of Kol's takeoffs on traditional MS/XP looks.) I didn't think much of it just to look at in the preview, but once I started using it at work I found to my surprise I really liked it: the coloring and texture are rich to me, it's almost tangible in a visual way. It's not simply a knock off of the original GUI but a significant improvement IMO. Despite its seeming simplicity I don't regard it as just a cardboard cutout of the std MS look, even though it is a deliberate takeoff on MS own GUI's (unlike some of Kol's other work that I recall). I'm surprised how much I wound up liking this skin (and the others in the series SW ported). Whereas someone else will likely just share my first impression and not have a second. Anyway, as always YMMV.

But I wouldn't put SW's ports in the "10 min and the software does all the work" type of ports. The software can translate a skin, but to have a polished WB skin takes some skill and work (although it's not the same as creating a new one from scratch of course). Anyway, not all ports are created equal, just as with the originals.

i can honestly say that ol' snidely has never considered himself a skinner. snidely doesn't want his name on the author list because he isn't an author.

BTW, 2 of those 3 skins are already here. I believe ChromeXP started out as a WindowBlinds skin and was ported over.

Dark Aqua is here. ChromeXP is here.

BTW, if you have SkinStudio 4.1 installed, all you need to do is double click on a .msstyles file and it will import it into WindowBlinds and apply it.

True ports, like the ones done by Snidely Whiplash, are more than just converting it. He adds addtional elements to the skin since msstyles are kind of primitive.

Doh!
Apologies SW ..aka Pasley .... Froggy was up as the 'Author' but on checking back I noted who the 'Portee' was.

Tallyhawk is one of Frogboy's. It seems his C Drive was pretty fragmented when he posted the bklind, too
