Shortcut ordering and top docking broken

Two issues, one since I updated from 4 to 5, and the other since today when updating to the latest release 5.86 revision 8.

The newest issue is docking to the top of the screen. This has been working fine and I had three fences that rollup up at the top of the screen. After the update they still dock at the top, but they now roll up so the title bar moves down. Before the title bar would always stay at the top of the screen with the fence rolling down from the top. I did notice that in the changelog there is the following

  • Fixed the issue where fence groups would not dock to top of the screen anymore.

But it only made it worse since it will not roll down keeping the title docked to the top. I also tried to restore my layout but it will not go back to being properly docked at the top.

The other issue that I just can't figure out but once I moved to Fences 5, I have found the the shortcuts in my fences do not stay in the order I arrange them. For example I have the recycle bin in one and always want it at the top left, but it randomly (seems that way) moves around. It is not just the recycle bin (that one just annoys me the most), but all shortcuts. I doesn't appear to be alphabetical or any other specific order, seems totally random. Is there anyway to have them to stop moving the shortcuts around?

Hi Todash,

Dismayed to hear of your issues! I hope we can get things working. A couple things to start maybe.

(1) If you pull the top-docked fence away and then back, does it go back to being docked at the top?

(2) It definitely should be checked, but, could you see if "Move titlebar to the bottom" is checked in "More options" in Customize?

3) Similarly, try these settings in the layout panel, then try undocking / re-docking

4) Last, if still having problems, please try sending in your logs. No guarantee we can figure it out but we can give it a shot, for each those issues mentioned. First, go to Troubleshooting and enabled Advanced Logging, then reboot and reproduce the problem a few times, then go back and Create an Error Report package (instructions will be provided on how to upload). We can take a look from there.

Thanks and hope we can get this resolved.

Thanks for the reply. I can report that the option, "Move titlebar to the bottom" has solved my issue with docking to the top of the screen.

Still no idea about reordering of shortcuts within the fences though. Any hidden options that would make that happen?

Will need to think about the reordering issue. Definitely no options that would make that happen.

I don't know that the "Enable advanced logging" would capture enough information to figure this out, but that + screenshots might get us closer. If the contents of your desktop are private and you don't want to post publically, feel free to send me a DM instead and we can continue there. I don't know what's happening, but I'm curious to learn more

Hi Todash,

Just writing to see if the "icon reordering" issue persists for you. We've seen a few users report this now, so we're wanting to get to the bottom of this for people experiencing it.

If it is – it is always when coming back from being away for a while? I.e. if you turn your monitor off, wait, then turn it back on, might that reproduce? Do restoring backups resolve the issue? (Also, what version of Windows? 23H2, 24H2 etc exact build number from WinVer?)

Thank you!

Hi Todash, we think we may have isolated and fixed the "Icon Reordering" issue you mentioned.

If you get this, feel free to try this patcher, which will update you to v5.87 (Revision 4). Hopefully this takes care of the issue!

Sorry for not getting back sooner, but work and holiday stuff has kept me too busy to look into things.

Thanks so much for continuing to look into it. I will give that patcher a try and will get back to you here and let you know.

Hey Todash, happy new year. Just checking in to see if reordering issue has been resolved?

Sounds like some other users have had success, so hoping it works for you as well.

Happy new year to you as well.

I was giving it time (plus holiday busyness) and it does look like it has worked. Doesn't appear to have had any icons move around on me, so thanks much for solving this. Much appreciated.
