Known issues

  • ARM PCs are not fully supported (Seamless and KVM connections should work but "Seamless display" will not)
  • English is the only complete translation currently (others will be spotty at best for launch). More translations will be included in subsequent releases.
  • If installing Multiplicity 4 over an existing installation, post-reboot, you will need to open the Multiplicity Configuration UI (by searching or from the Windows system tray) to initiate the activation.
  • If a Secondary is allowed to sleep and is set to 'lock' when it does, when it has 'Seamless Display' connections to it, the local PC will need to be used to unlock it.  The workaround for it is to have Multiplicity set to unlock the Secondary when the Primary is unlocked
  • If trying to control a Secondary via KVM from another Secondary, after activation (required on the Secondary and must be a pro license), the Multiplicity Service needs to be restarted manually

I feel the transfer speeds may be slower on this version in between kvm mode. Unfortunately, I did not save a copy of beta 1 to cross check this for sure. Wish I kept it.

I am running an old cpu on my secondary; i5-4570T with the instruction set; Intel® SSE4.1, Intel® SSE4.2, Intel® AVX2

When connected do you have multiplv64 running on the secondary or multiplv?  Likewise mprdp64 or mprdp.exe on the primary?

Thanks for the quick response. It looks like the issue is on my network and not the software afterall.

Both pc's are running the 64 version which I believe is the correct version that they should be on.

Is there any possibility that a Multiplicity 4 Primary could allow connection to a Multiplicity 3.60 Secondary?  As things stand version 4 complains that the Secondary is at a different version, of course.  But it would be great if it could allow connection to v3.60 to permit support of older OS's and associated hardware.

Is it possible to bind Multiplicity to a given NIC?  I have issues sometimes when connecting to a VPN on main pc then trying to access secondary PC.  About 50% of the time I'm unable to access the secondary PC until I disconnect the VPN.

Bit of a terse reply there mate.

Sadly I have had to uninstall version 4, despite having paid for it!

I upgraded today to beta 2 - I was having the inability to snap more than 2 secondary PCs to the grid. I can now do this, but they don't work. I need to remove 1 of the 2 secondary Pcs for either to work (both work individual of each other). So the snap appears to take primary + 2 secondary, but it doesn't function.

Uninstalled, rebooted. Re-installed beta 2, rebooted. Now my secondary computer is asking me to activate even though I selected "secondary computer".

Altered CPU detection to deal with issues on intel 2xxx and 3xxx series of CPUs which didn't support AVX2. This should resolve ‘failure to connect’ issues.

This solved the installation problem I had on older CPU.

But as usual, after one problem is solved, more are coming. (on the old machine, it's fine otherwise) :

- parameters are not saved, which means anytime the PC reboot or MP4 is restarted you have the new install panel (select primary/secondary) and nothing else is saved, like a different encryption key or other options. I had to switch the encryption key back to "CHANGEME" to make KVM work.

- you can't close MP4, using "unload Multiplicity" will bring the prompt to confirm & the UAC but will not close Multiplicity (icon remain in the task bar, and some processes are still here), but a KVM connection will be cut and if you try to reconnect it will say "unknown protocol error (3)", so some services are getting closed but not all.

Otherwise it's working, but I did not test everything.

Unload is not meant to 'close' all of MP, just unload the working process.

I suspect you mean on a Secondary.

This reads like an uninstall \ reboot \ reinstall is needed.

After the final install, try logging out \ in instead of a reboot 1st.  If the settings are there post log in, try a reboot.

Are you working on adding requested features? Would like the ability to customize the hotkey and number of times pressed for the broadcast button. I've requested it on a thread here in the past.

Unload Multiplicity always closed all processes and the task bar icon, it was working this way on MP3 and still work the same way with MP4 (tested on a modern PC that has no issue), but it's clearly broken on a older PC (32bit).

The issue is on a secondary with an older CPU (32bit), I've tried to reinstall MP4 properly and it ended up being the same, this is what I did :

- Uninstalled MP4, even ticked remove settings (I had to manually close every processes because the uninstaller was unable to do it, which is not normal)

- Rebooted.

- Installed MP4 Beta 2, installer did not ask to reboot the system but I did it anyway.

- Once I started MP4 for the first time it asked between Primary & Secondary, when choosing secondary it will ask for Product Key which is not normal, I bypassed the activation but I ended up with MP4 unable to create an encryption key (it remains blank, you can change it multiple time, MP4 do not save it), same thing with the computer password, blank and impossible to change and any other options, nothing is saved.

Workaround :

- Delete properly MP4 (killing processes and removing every files manually), Reinstall MP3, configure it, uninstall MP3 without deleting the settings file, Reinstall MP4 that will use MP3 settings file and this way, it "works".

But you won't be able to change any parameter.

For some reason MP4 can't write the settings file or close properly, feel like a privilege issue with Windows but both the installer and the software were launched in administrator.

Hello,

I just wanted to add my observations, thus far, with M4 and I hope this is the correct place to do that.  I don't wish to interrupt the current conversation.

The mouse cursor is disappearing and getting stuck when entering a full screen game on remote computer.  It would be preferable that the mouse cursor remain on the primary computer screen, regardless if one was being displayed on the secondary computer or not.

I notice this when one of my kids is playing something such as Minecraft and they ask for my help in doing something and so I open Multiplicity 4 and connect to their computer (secondary computer) and my mouse cursor immediately disappears as soon as I enter the secondary computer display window if it is a game and sometimes when it is a full screen application.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Ivan Thomson

We think we know what it is with very old 32bit PCs.  It will be investigated.

Thank you for the report.

I am not sure if this is unique to beta 2 or not but I thought I would post these findings here because it has increased the usability of Multiplicity 4 by a lot.

I was having a lot of issues with transferring files via kvm. File transfers would drop midway through and seemed slower then in Beta 1. (I do have one of my pc's hooked up via ethernet cable, not sure if this is a factor)

It was a default Windows 11 firewall setting issue. By default Multiplicity 4 does allow public but blocks private. When I edited this to allow private my transfer speeds doubled in speed and I no longer experience any drops whatsoever during a large file transfer. Huge difference maker!

Installed Beta 2 from the website overtop Beta 1. Two of my secondaries are not saving settings. As soon as I close the Multiplicity UI, the settings are reverted and it asks me to choose between Primary and Secondary again. And all settings are undone. Tried rebooting, removing using removal tool, and reinstalling Beta 2. No luck.

Seems to be broken.

Any ideas?

Are the machines either running 32 bit windows or extremely old (10 year+ old) 64 bit cpus?

If so this should be addressed in the next update.

Is this via KVM mode?

The mouse cursor disappears because it mirrors the remote end and some games for example hide the OS cursor and render their own which could cause confusion.

We could however perhaps add an option to never hide for those who want it.

No, they are 8th gen processors.

I ended up resolving this myself. What I tried:

1) Uninstalled Multiplicity Beta 2.
2) Ran Multiplicity cleanup/removal tool from Support.
3) Installed Beta 1. Did not install properly. When trying to launch config/app manually, it said it wasn't installed properly and asked me if I wanted to install. Clicked yes and nothing happens. Files are there in Program Files.
4) Repeat Steps 1-2.
5) Installed Beta 2. Beta 2 is broken and keeps asking to activate even on Secondary machines. Does not save settings in Config tool - won't remember encryption or any checkbox selection items when Config is closed. The Settings Backup tab won't open and it stays on the Control tab even when Settings Backup is selected on left side.
6) Repeat Steps 1-2.
7) Reinstalled last copy of v3.60.
8) Installed Beta 2 over top of v3.60.
9) Ran through initial setup and selected Secondary. All settings were brought over and everything worked.
