CUSTOM START BUTTON NOT SHOWING CORRECTLY (START11)

Hello.

For the last month upon starting my Windows 11 laptop, the Windows start button -- customized through Start11 -- doesn't show up properly (as shown in the image below); I have to open Start11 and re-select it for it to show it normally. It happens with every image I use. It's not a major issue, but having to do the open program --> select start button every time I open my laptop is getting annoying.

Both Start11 and Windows11 are up to date. I tried resetting Start11 to default setting and reinstalling it, but neither helped; issue's still there.

What could be the problem and how do I make it stop happening? Thank you.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need to know.

  1. Windows 11 full version and OS Build number. Please use Winver.exe.
  2. Start11 full version number too. (Start11v1 or v2?)

Thank you.

Windows 11 Home 23H2 - Build 22631.4169 - Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22700.1034.0 and Start11 v2.1

As mentioned both Windows 11 and Start11 are up to date with the latest updates.

Latest version of Start11v2 is Start11v2.11 Please refer here: https://forums.stardock.com/530476/.

Please try this, uninstall Start11v2, reboot immediately after installation done. Download the latest Start11 v2.11, install it. Reboot immediately again after installation done. Retest and report back.

I’ll try, but since the v2.1 update only arrived last week (I check for updates manually every time I open my laptop…which is once or twice a week) I’m not sure the v2.11 will already be available to me. And besides, updating version 2 times (from v1.55 to v2 and from v2 to 2.1) didn’t solve the bug.

Start11 v2.11 was introduce in September 10, 2024. It should be available to everyone who purchase a license for Start11v2.

Thank you to you for your help. I’ll try downloading and installing v2.11, once I’ve done it I’ll let you know if this update solves the bug (hopefully it will).

v2.11 update installed, issue is still there....it even showed right in the update's reboot. I rebooted the pc once more after that: nothing changed, the problem still showed up and I had to manually re-select the button start image.

Great, now we have the same version, we can move on with the issue. One question, do you have any other 3rd party application that also change how Startpanel, taskbar and/or Windows explorer work?

No, I only use Start11 together with Windows’ personalization options to customize the taskbar.

I’m pretty much already in Clean Boot when I open my laptop, as I only have one other startup program that launches alongside Start11 when Windows starts. I’ve already tried to uninstall that program (to verify eventual conflicts), but it changed nothing.

There is a section where you create a new admin account in the clean boot steps. Have you tried that?

No, but I installed the program on my brother’s new (and empty) pc — under his admin account. Issue was still there.

Just to clarify something, this issue is on any custom start button image or specific button image?

Please try purge and reinstall steps as mention here : [Link]. Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account page. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall and reboot again after the installation. Retest and report back here.

Also, please try using the stock start button image that come along with Start11 and take a screenshot of that start button. Refer screenshot below.

I followed the procedure you suggested and it seemed to work, the issue not appearing for a couple of times, but today when I opened the laptop it showed up again — I was using the Start11 button image.

Than something else is causing the issue. What changed since it was working for couple of days?? What is new or updates, system clean up etc.

The only updates were Microsoft Defender (Windows’ built-in security) and my browser’s. Nothing else changed.

Hi luciensabre,

To help identify the issue, we're going to have to recommend performing the Clean Boot as Basj suggested.  Performing the Clean Boot will be a more thorough method for ensuring not only a minimal set of startup programs, but also any drivers that may have changed since the problem started occurring.

Please see our documentation here for complete guidance:

No drivers were changed or updated. I even tried to revert to an older “build” of Windows 11, but it didn’t help. And what’s more minimal than 1 single startup program (alongside Start11)? 1 program which I already tried to uninstall — thus only having Start11 at startup — verifying that the issue didn’t come from there.

May we know what is that other startup program you mentioned above?

RainMeter. But it’s not that program that causes the problem — which still showed up after I unistalled RainMeter and Start11 was the only program launched at startup.
