Can neither uninstall nor upgrade Fences3

Trying to install Fences 5, sharing violation

I purchased Fences 5 to upgrade from my old Fences 3, but the Fences 5 installer throws a bug, as does the Fences 3 uninstaller.

Windows 11 Build 2261.ni_release.220506-1250.  Windows Defender is the only anti-malware on the system.

Upgrading over Fences 3.  I have not yet tried the purge batch file.

Fences 3 does not appear in my Programs and Features and running the \Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Fences\uninstall.exe produces the error "Invalid start mode: archive filename"

I downloaded the Fences 5 installer from the purchase page at Stardock.com.

Fences 3 says there is an update available.  I downloaded and tried to install that, and got the same error "Could not open the uninstall executable for writing: Encountered a sharing violation while accessing C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Fences\lua5.1.dll.  C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Fences\uninstall.exe"

I’m willing to delete the files for Fences 3 manually but *really* don’t want to lose my current fences.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please try this. Use this to backup your layout snapshots: https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#backupsnapshots

After that was done, please try purge and reinstall steps as mention here : [Link]. Download the latest Fences version 5 from your account page. Reboot after the purge. Install Fences 5 and reboot again after the installation. Retest and report back here.

Thank you,
