Start10 Stopped Working

Last night my Start10 just stopped working. I was using it in combination with WindowBlinds10 (which is still working) and went so far as to uninstall and reinstall it. I have no idea what happened as my Start Menu receeded (closed) like I told it to and there was an opaque shadow of where it was that wouldn't disappear but the start menu would open showing all the options and would close but that opaque shadow remained. It's happened before and restarting my computer usually worked so I restarted again and this time that horrible Windows 10 start menu was there with all the options that I really don't want and have to sort through to find what I want where the Windows 7 menu was always so much simpler. As I mentioned, I uninstalled Start10, downloaded the latest version and installed but nothing changed. I did it again using RevoUninstaller to get the remaining files out that your basic uninstallers miss and reinstalled but again nothing was there. 

The only thing I did when this happened was installed the LibreWolf browser to test it out and discovered it's an app which when Start10 started having these issues I thought that might be the issue so I had to hunt where that was (I didn't know it was an app at the time) and I removed it when I finally found it which didn't help. I tried System Restore but it doesn't seem to want to work even though I tried it three times. It's very frustrating as I love the way Start10 works with WindowBlinds10 to theme out my interface. I downloaded a program called Open Shell to get the Windows 7 interface back but it's just not the same and I cannot figure out what happened as Start10 seems to be functioning but acts like somethings blocking it from changing the start menu. I've had this since 2021 and never had any issues except that problem of once in a while having a semi-transparent shadow that went away after a restart.

I'm not expecting you to necessarily understand or even to fix this as I do have some knowledge of software (worked for Dell for several years-don't throw those eggs and tomatoes lol) but am by no means an expert as that was well over a decade ago and I've basically only worked with my own computer and help a few friends and family once in a while. 

But do you have any idea what's happened here and if Start11 might help I'd consider it if it works with Windows10 but I wouldn't want to pay for something that doesn't work and Start10 should be working. I have several of your products and this is the first problem I've had with any of them. I didn't take any screenshot (I know I should have) because I was getting frustrated with the problem and didn't think to and I doubt I can replicate it when the program doesn't work anymore.

Did the WindowBlinds theme you were using alter the Start Menu? If so, try applying the default Windows theme, then restart your computer. Now reapply the WindowBlinds theme you were using and see if that helps.

Sorry to hear you are having issues. First need to know.

  1. Windows 10 full version and OS Build number. Please use Winver.
  2. Start10 full version number.

And, Please try purge and reinstall steps as mention here : [Link]. Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account page. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall and reboot again after the installation. Retest and report back here.

Tried your suggestion and made sure to disable the Open Shell add on so it wouldn't interfere... it didn't help. Start10 is obviously there but completely nonfunctional.

Oh and basj, I did as you asked. I purged and restarted, reinstalled and restarted... no change. A friend of mine was in a bad accident in Beaumont Texas two nights ago and was a bit distracted so i forgot to mention I did this but alas, no change.

Please, moving forward, to troubleshoot Start10. Please uninstall OpenShell, so that it ensure there is no leftover that can interfere with Start10.

Next please try Cleanboot. https://support.stardock.com/space/SHC/1334935592/Start11+Clean+Boot.

Note: Please make sure to follow the steps closely.

Try that and report back.

Are any Start10 processes running in taskmanager processes tab?

Also does opening via the windows key work?

Sorry I just got back to you as I've been trying to help my friend as she was pretty banged up. I did what you said Basj and that worked as removing Open Shell again, making absolutely sure all the registry files were also removed and then doing the Clean Boot. Hopefully Start10 is back up and running for at least the next 4 years or until I upgrade to Win11 and get Start11 to go with it. 

Thanks to all three of you for the help. You make great software as I have Start10, WindowBlinds10, SoundPackager and DeskScapes11 that have all been working perfectly until this problem you helped me resolve.
