Full Screen menu titles cut off after replacing TV

Using Start 11 on HTPC

Hey.

I've long been using an LG TV for my home theater PC and Start Menu has been a good tool for dealing with Windows from the couch.

I recently had to switch from the LG to a Samsung. Both are 55" 4k TVs set to 250% scaling. On the new TV the Start 11 full screen start menu has the top menu labels cut off and extra blank space at the bottom. I assume there's something wrong with how display scaling is working between the two devices. Is there anything I can do to further troubleshoot what's going on?

- Disabling fullscreen menu works fine; I can see the labels alright.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. I can't seem to reproduce your issue on my system. Need more information.

  1. You on Windows 10 or 11? Also need its full version and OS build number. Please use Winver.exe.
  2. Start11 version number.
  3. Start11 start panel style you're using.
  4. Do you connect to only one 55" TV or do you have another monitor connected to your PC? Need to know all monitors setting, such as resolution, scale factor, connection type.
  5. Post a video or screenshot on what you see on your screen.
  6. Does the issue goes away once you restart your Explorer.exe? https://www.windowscentral.com/how-restart-explorerexe-fix-common-ui-problems-windows-10

Thank you.

Sure.

1. I'm on Windows 11 23H2 build.

2. Start 11 is 2.08.

3. Style: Windows 10.

4. Only the one TV via HDMI from an nVidia 2060s GPU.

For any further HW information here is a pastebin link to my HWINFO report: https://pastebin.com/0Kv3tGBf

5. Screenshot: https://imgur.com/a/oPxZOLB

I've added three screenshots, one with Windows scaling set to 250%, one to 200%, and just as a shot in the dark, the Start11 font settings.

6. It does not. I tried restarting from the task manager after each scale change just to be sure. No joy.

Thank you for the information. Try this, uninstall Start11, Reboot immediately after uninstall done. Redownload the latest version. Install it, reboot immediately again. Restart as soon as installation done. Retest the issue and report back.

That did solve the problem. I deleted all the user data just to be sure so I have to start organizing things from square one, but it is fixed now. Thank you.

Great, really glad to hear that.

That's certainly an option, but the rest of the scaling is pretty necessary to have easily readable text, apps, and so forth. That extra 25% does surprising work. I'm content I think.

I am also experiencing this issue, may I add that it appears the root cause is when you have Start11 > Taskbar > Enhanced taskbar settings > "Enable Start11 autohide mode" enabled and Start11 > Start Menu > Configuration > Advanced Options > "Use fullscreen menu" both enabled.

When both the above settings are enabled it "pushes the top of the start menu" off the viewable screen area and you are then unable to see the header of the icon group. The titles are still there, as if you disable "Use fullscreen menu" they are visible once again.

I am using:

Windows11 23H2

Start11 v2.08

Style: Windows 10

2No. LG 27GN800-B Monitors

I have tried other options such as disabling "more tiles" etc, however it appears to only be a conflict between the 2 detailed above. When I hit the Windows key it looks like the Start11 background process is to calculate the fullscreen size of the start menu first (with no taskbar visible), then applying the taskbar as visible after, which is in turn pushing the top of the full screen start menu off the top of the visible screen real estate and therefore making the group name(s) not visible.

The same issue occurs if the start menu is opened on my primary and/or secondary monitor.

I have disabled "Enable Start11 autohide mode" for now, but would like to use both settings together if a fix can be found for this conflict.

I would guess perhaps the "Enable Start11 autohide mode" advanced setting was removed when SirBedwyr uninstalled and reinstalled Start11 and therefore the issue did not present itself again. If other users are able to test and confirm?

Hope this helps to troubleshoot the issue, your assistance is appreciated.
