My Start11 Menu icons in tabs are WAY smaller than they were. They are set to Default (and always were on Default but they showed up bigger) but now are super tiny. No other changes made, just installed the new build today (Version 2.07). Windows 11 Pro 23H2 (22631.3447). I'm running an UW monitor at 144Hz and a resolution of 3840x1600.

In Start 11 v. 2.07, with Windows App Style view, is there a way to have more than 2 rows of pinned icons?

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. You can add more rows or set it to Automatic so row will be added as you add more icons on that group or tabs. Please try this setting.

Thank you.

Start11 2.0.7
Windows 11
Build 22631.3296

It's possible to open the default Win11 Start menu with the mouse by doing the following:

First enable the Taskbar setting 'Show Win-X menu when right clicking on the start button'.

Then press and hold down the left mouse button on the Start11 button, now also hold down the right mouse button at the same time, now release the left button followed by the right button. The Start menu will now open instead of the Start11 menu.

If the 'Show Win-X menu' setting is disabled then a similar thing will happen. By doing the same as above it will show a small context menu, but then the next time you left click on the Start 11 button it will open the default Start menu.

Thanks but it will still open the Win11 Start menu. I'm not using the keyboard at all when this happens and i can reproduce the problem in a VM.

And i just found a different problem when renaming apps. The renaming box size is extremely tiny:

It happens because this box is always the same size as the icon size. So with 'Extra Large' icons you'll see a much wider renaming box, but with a Small icon size you'll see just 3 letters like above. I've only tested this with Windows scaling set to 175% and 200% but it happens with both.

Edit: When using the 'Tiny' icon size for the Tab it doesn't even show any letters:

If you pin more it will expand.

Or you can create another group.

How does one resize the Windows 7 style Start Menu? I have installed it on my brother's system, and I can't seem to find a way to resize it.

Hello,
For Windows 7 and Modern style,

  • to add more space vertically, you can add more shortcut list (Start Menu-> Configuration->Left hand side shortcuts->Show at least->Slider->Adjust slider to add more shortcut)
  • to add more space horizontally, you will need to use the grid style and add more columns. (Start Menu->Configuration->Show shortcut in a grid rather than a list (On)-> The grid should have -> drop down menu and select how many columns you wish to have)

I noted in my OP that they were set to Default. Nothing changed in settings from before the patch and after. And it's still set to Default. Yet the icons are tiny, as you can see in this additional screenshot. ~Vince

I'm assuming you are using the Windows App style. It appears that the default size is small. Maybe this was changed in the app.

What happens when you change the Icon style to medium or large? Do they increase in size, or stay the same?

Not a real issue, but My Start11 menu always open on First Page. I would like it opens on the last page I previously used.

(Pardon my poor english)

I'm using Windows Pro style in Start 11 V2. What's wild is I have two installations of Win 11 (one pro and one enterprise) and both are on the same build level of Windows. Both are on the same build of Start 11 V2. I can load the same saved Start 11 V2 settings save file and on Enterprise it looks right and on Pro it is small. (With Default as setting.) And yes, if I manually make them bigger per tab, they do get bigger. But switching back to Default makes them tiny again on Pro.

I did some tests on the Windows Pro style and found the following.

In the Start11v2 configs on the Advanced options, the icon size you set here is the Default size in the Appearance>Icon style menu.

Check your two computers and I think you'll find the Advanced options icon size is different.

I would really like to put in a vote to have a quick launch replacement in Start11.

Was just forced to update to Win11, immediately got Start11 but I'm still missing a quick launch.

(I am aware of an explorer patch but IMO explorer is something that should not be tampered with)

@peliard, I had checked that, and it didn't say Small, but I didn't notice it was set to Absurd. But the icons showed up Tiny. Again, the config file I share between the two installs had it as Medium, but after the patch it changed it to Absurd. On one (Pro) Absurd as Default was showing Tiny icons. One the other (Enterprise) Absurd was showing Medium icons. Just weird. Oh well. Resetting that setting to Medium fixed it. Thanks!

I updated to Beta build 22635.3495 last night. Start11 V2 2.07 is not happy. Screenshots are attached.

Not sure what you are showing us, but I'm on that build with no issues.

Give us some specifics on your settings. Enhanced taskbar? etc.

Is there any way to make this section a double row when the taskbar is bigger than a single row?

It is beginning to look like a Microsoft issue. I removed Start11 and I rebooted and there is no Start Menu at all. I plan to restore an image try again. What I was trying to show in my screenshots was how messed up the Taskbar was. It looked double the normal size in height and all my icons were gone.

I don't believe that's possible as of now. This has been referred to the dev team as a feature request, but no news as of yet.

Hi all,

I made a quick video right after logging into Windows 11 23H2 (22631.3447) to show a weird issue I am seeing related to Jump Lists. The icons correctly start by showing the proper file type icons for each jump list but then once you start mousing over files in the jump list, they get replaced with the icons for the program (instead of for the file types).  This just started recently for me, maybe with the 2.07 update? That time frame seems about right. I tried clearing my windows icon cache and rebooting with the same results. I have not yet done a uninstall/reinstall yet as I figured I would make this post first incase it might help squish a buggie. Thanks!

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. I try and check my system but I can't reproduce your issue on my system. Would like recommend for you to do the Uninstall, reboot immediately, re-download V2.07 again. Install that, reboot again. Retest it and report back.

Thank you.

Hi Basj,

I did a backup of my settings, performed the uninstall / reinstall of Start 11 v2.07, set my Start Menu to Left aligned and kept the default of Windows 7 style during the initial setup, and then the jump list icons worked as expected. I then proceeded to restore my settings using the Settings Backup, Restore Settings and selected my backup file and the icon problem issue returned. I then used the Reset Start 11 settings option and then the Jump List icons started working as they should again. So there must be something specific about the combination of settings that is causing the issue. I can email in my backed up settings file if that might help?

That would be extremely helpful.  A link sent via private message to myself would also work.
