Daily blue screens of death linked to Start11

Hello,

I'm getting 1-2 blue screens of death EVERY DAY directly attributed to Program.sys in my Start11 installation.

Here is a sample output from WhoCrashed

On Sun 2/11/2024 2:00:57 PM your computer crashed or a problem was reported

Crash dump file: K:\MEMORY.DMP (Full memory dump)
Uptime: 1 day, 01:19:18 (hh:mm:ss)
Bugcheck code: 0x13A(0x11, 0xFFFFFF1CC0200140, 0xFFFFFF1CC3AC5B90, 0x0)
Bugcheck name: KERNEL_MODE_HEAP_CORRUPTION
Driver or module in which error occurred: Program.sys (Start10_64!RepaintTask+0x18A)
File path: C:\Program
Bug check description: This indicates that the kernel mode heap manager has detected corruption in a heap.
Analysis: This is a typical software problem. Most likely this is caused by a bug in a driver.
Google query: Start10_64 KERNEL_MODE_HEAP_CORRUPTION

I am sorry you are having issues but you would need to contact the manufacturer of program.sys which is nothing to do with us.

A user mode app like Start11 is not capable of causing a bsod itself, only potentially exposing a bug elsewhere.  We do not have a driver file.

Whocrashed appears to be incorrectly confusing a user mode stack with a kernel crash and I suspect it has also mangled the name of the SYS file causing it given the path says c:\program.

I would also check your ram as one of the most common reasons for this is faulty ram.

Since uninstalling Start11, the BSODs have stopped

Additionally, the BSOD occured ONLY when changing the current window via Start11 (clicking an app to open it / change current window)

So I still believe the BSODs are directly linked to Start11

End of ghostpirate's quote

As noted before it should not be possible for a user mode application to cause a bsod directly.  The worst an app should be able to do is crash a user process like explorer.

Only a bug in the OS or drivers can cause a kernel crash.

We have also had no other reports of this and Google doesn't seem to be showing anything either so I cannot explain why you would have this problem.

My best guess would be a buggy driver on your computer.

Obviously if not having Start11 installed works for you then that's great as it solves your problem but my gut says we are not the root cause here.

I would be curious to know if it continued with the enhanced taskbar disabled.
