Start11 v2 - Windows Pro Style Settings

Just upgraded to v2, but having some issues with Pro Style.

  1. Would like to move the 'All Apps' button to the bottom of the menu, with a larger button like with Modern Style, and rename it back to 'All Programs'.
  2. 'Open Default Windows 11 Menu' is also missing as a Pinnable Installed Application..
  3. 'Universal Applications' folder missing from Right Side Menu options.
  4. 'Suggested Apps' bin isn't the same as the previous 'Recent Apps', and the list doesn't clear when using CCleaner>Clean User Assist History. Want to re-enable 'Recent Apps' and not use 'Suggested Apps'. 'Recent Documents' does clear.
  5. 'All Apps' page should allow for list to be viewed like Modern Style, without grouping programs by letter and universal apps shown at the top. 'Show flat list without folders' does not accomplish this, because apps are still grouped, and as name states, there are no folders.
  6. 'All Apps' page has removed all of the important right-click menu options for each of the programs, such as Properties, Show Path, Rename, Open Folder Location, etc... MUST BE REIMPLEMENTED PLEASE. It is really important to rename some folders, merge programs to new ones, and delete ghost programs. Great example of this; the Stardock folder itself. There is a random new file called 'Stardock ModernMix' that I want to delete, and 2 instances of Start11 where the first one doesn't work.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues.

  1. In the Windows Pro style, the "All app" can not relocate to the bottom.
  2. You can pin Windows Menu by using these steps. Go to Modern/Windows 7 style, right click on Windows menu, select pin to Start (not Start11). Go back to Windows Pro Style, the Windows menu should appear there.
  3. 4. and 5. I believe, The Windows App, WindowsPro and Windows Launcher style were designed by referring to Windows 10 and Windows 11 style. These issues you mentioned work on Windows 7 and Modern style. Which not for the newer Start panels style. If you need all those features, I believe it is best for you to stick with Modern Style.

As for modernMix issue, it was reported before and Dev has noted that the issue will be resolved on the next release. Refer here: https://forums.stardock.com/525819/get;3919891

Thank you.

Thanks for your response.

However, I just paid to upgrade a software that was suppose to deliver 'Free Lifetime Updates' only because I assume the newer version had a major overhaul in development.

I understand this business needs to keep generating revenue to provide improvements and new releases, and I appreciate the costs still being low and reasonable, but if I should just stick to the previous Modern Style than this purchase becomes essentially pointless, for all the multiple devices I use.

As with all software, faults and lack of functionality of an implementation can be fixed by simply developing a solution to the problem. After all, the entire concept of Start8-11 was to overcome the limitations of Windows' default Start menus, so basing new styles completely off the defaults seems a bit uninnovative. Hope Stardock can keep improving this software and at least some of my concerns can be resolved with an update.

Just to quickly clarify something, Stardock do not and never have sold software with free lifetime updates where updates include anything over and above updates in the same version number series.  So buy WindowBlinds 4, get all the updates for 4.x but not v5, v6, v7 etc as those are major version changes.

v2 is indeed a major upgrade on v1 with these new styles, but there are also enhancements made which benefit those using the original styles such as greater control over the right hand side shortcuts and of course the taskbar related changes.

For the suggested apps, CCleaner will not clean those as those are Start11 data.  We offer a delete option for those in the Start11 settings app on the settings backup page.

The suggested apps feature provides different results than the recent apps in the past because the data collected is different and it has a degree of intelligence to what it shows you.

There is no direct access to the files shown in the all apps list as this is based on information provided by Windows itself and it does not provide the path to the original shortcuts responsible for these showing up.  We do offer the option to rename things and put them in folders, but only one level and an option to hide things all via the right click menu.

No issue paying for an upgrade, when I can see and can enjoy the benefits.

CCleaner cleans the 'Recent Docs' bin, so why not let it also clean the 'Suggested Apps'? If that's completely not possible due to CCleaner platform having to be allowed access to read Start11 data from somewhere, then why not allow us to enable previous 'Recent Apps' instead of 'different data collected Suggested Apps'? Whole point of CCleaner is to remove and clean unwanted stored data, and I like to have a fresh Start Menu free of apps at the start of every week.

The in-settings delete option will now require me to manually go through those steps every week? Maybe enable a scheduled delete feature (daily/weekly/every restart, etc...)

I really hope you guys can find a way to restore the access to the direct files, because if someone told me in 2013 that Start8 was basically just a 'theme' covering up the surface of the Windows menu with limited added functionality because 'Windows does not provide' accessibility to previous menu capabilities, it would have been pretty useless and I probably would not have been a customer all these years.

Guess I'm a little agitated because the Pro Style design looks fantastic in similarity to the Modern style, which is why I didn't hesitate to upgrade, yet kind of feel baited-and-switched. But I regress, you guys have done a great job developing the software up until now, I'm sure other great features are to come. Just don't stop now.
