WB4 Beta Bug List (Mods Plz Move as Required)

Just a couple of bugs in the new beta for WB4:

1. Certain app windows (like SDC) and child windows (Adobe Encore DVD) do not roll all the way up if a rollup control is clicked.
2. Certain MDI window backgrounds (PS7, AE6, PS Elements 2) do not skin.
3. Utility windows accessed from the TuneUp Utilities integrator do not skin.

Anyone else seeing these issues? Each of them represent a loss of functionality from the previous release version 4.20.017

Maybe it's just a skin problem.

more issues. sometimes when you come out of hibernate some of the parts of the skin turn black. mostly in the start menu. If you reload the blind then the black goes away. and this bug has been there a while. and I haven't noticed any of the problems you listed jeff, but then I haven't really looked. the black thing is pretty darn obvious.

Possibly, but the same skins work like they should in 4.20.017.

some of the parts of the skin turn black

I've noticed this at times also, but I haven't been able to pin it down to in/out hibernate. For me, it occurs rarely and randomly, so I'm not going to be much help in squashing this one.

it just happens to me with the hibernate thingy. I have heard that microsoft did some silly things with it and it isn't as reliable as it could be so it might be a problem with hibernate and not windowblinds.

of course the black thing could have happened at other times but this is the only time that I have noticed it

P.S.

Is there a better place to post/send issues that may be bugs? I'm not sure if support@stardock is the right place.

Dazed and confused,

I'm having rollup issues as well........ no 2 windows seem to rollup the same. SDC rollsup to half a window, etc.....

news://news.stardock.com/

several newsgroups here......... probably the best place to report bugs.

The screen edge clip isn't working. It's following the default '4' for the frame top instead of what I've set in SS

Why rollup at all? It is easier for me to maximize/minimize.

Kona...... you do it your way, and I'll do it mine....   I don't use rollup instead of minimize, I use for different reasons, and I love it.

Are there any uses for rollup other than for people with hidden taskbars?Just curious ,I put it in the skins now but I never use it.There is a setting in the WB config that allows you to set this option for all skins and all windows regardless of whether there is a button.
I guess the answer is yes, coz my taskbar isn't hidden, and I use rollup all the time. But as I was saying to Kona, I don't use it to replace minimize. It has it's uses, for me anyway.

As far as having a button for it, I don't need one, right-click on the titlebar is set for all skins.

Koa, not all skins support that do they? Maybe I need to mess with my config.

Open WB config > User Overrides > Advanced Settings > whatever you set there works on all skins.

Adobe Photoshop and Encore DVD are two prime examples where several modules/documents are open at the same time (and I don't mean the palettes) and a rollup of the child windows works great as opposed to a minimize. At least in my workflow.

I'm not sure if this is related to the latest WB4 beta build, because I didn't have the problem for a few days after installing that, but after I just updated Skin Studio and Icon Developer and Icon packager, all of a sudden the text on all desktop icons no longer has a transparent background. I've tried everything I could think of to get it back, but I still have those ugly little solid color boxes behind the icon text. I'm completely stumped as to what's causing it. Any suggestions, other than trying to revert to a previous build?

I too have noticed the random-size rollup problem mentioned above, and have had several instances of Start panel menus turning black, although in each case of black menu, closing and reopening the menu corrected the problem.

me too. Some i minimize, not appropriate for all.

One thing, if I am using two dif browsers, i roll them up and alternate. The other windows i have open, some end up minimize. To alternate browsers quickly, roll ups one stacked below the other works best for me. Other reasons too. SOmetimes I need to act quick.

Er.... some of the exclusions seem to fall back on previous versions, i.e. WMP and Quicken.. I deleted the WMP exclusion (if you use corporate WMP skin it applies the wb that you are using and you can roll it up above any window you have open... that roll-up thing again) so that is fine. I cant find the exclusion for quicken.... i just roll another window over it when I need sudden privacy. (Instant messaging too) but it was really nice to see quicken skinned

BTW.. for me, a quick double-click and it is always on top (or not) and a quick alternate click and it is rolled up... no need to go rummaging in amongst the minimized windows for the ones you use most.

I just click the windows name in the taskbar and it minimizes. another click and it maximizes. I can't see how the rollup would help me, when a window is rolled up it is still on the desktop and that bugs me. If I don't want a window open, the only place i want it is on the taskbar at the bottom.

But thats just my 2 cents.

That's fine Kona....... nobody is saying you have to use the rollup feature. But you did ask why anyone would use it.....

first up a possible bug fix in this new WB build!
i have had it installed for about 5 minutes, and i have been "hammering" Tab Launchpad solidly, changing tabs with both the keyboard and the mouse. TLP hasnt resized its self at all!

this is a liberating experience! i havent been able to use TLP this freely since i installed the first WB4 beta! it normally resized within 10 tab changes >

right, now onto the bugs, as requested.
my machine is running winXP pro with an ATI Radion 9200 128meg graphics card

bug1 = windows media player. i am running version 8.00.00.4477, the one that came with winXP pro, since i have no interest in updating it.
i only use WMP for playing movies, so i have it set to the skin "(Default Media Player)" where the brackets are part of the skin name. EVERY SINGLE time i change a WB skin WMP's skin changes to "Windows Classic"

this happens on both my old home machine, my new home machine and my work machine, and has been going on since the WB4 betas, if not earlier.

this has been reproduced, even though WMP is now excluded by default in this build. i have not removed this exclusion so i have not yet tested the window growing bug. with WMP skinned, and using the "(Default Media Player)" skin it grows steadity, downwards and to the right while being dragged with the mouse on the title bar. this is not happening now that it is excluded, and somewhat more ugly

there is hope however. i have a windows program i wrote using the Qt 3.x toolkit. in previous versions of WB 4 Qt programs had exactly the same window growing problem that WMP had when dragged, which is why they are excluded on my work (occasional windows development) machine.

bug2 = there are animated swimming fishes on the title bar of Tab LaunchPad. this is fine, appart from the fact that i have TLP set to "Ignore this application and do not skin it"

i know the rule is for the correct program since i can give it a per-application skin. also, while it is excluded programs launched from TLP were not skinned since they were inheriting its exclusion rule. note that TLP was skinned with the aquarium skin while this was happening.

bug3 = i am still getting the ugly menu bar problems when accessing the menus in notepad via the keyboard (alt_f, etc). this isnt new in this build though. various screen shots of this in action have been sent in to stardock support.

bug4 = there is no preview of the skin XP Jeans when applying a pre application skin.
https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=1&SkinID=2124

it is listed, but you only get its name, no picture. again, not a new bug.

bug5 = apply XP Jeans as a per application skin to notepad. i am using a tweaked Aquarium (UIS2 i believe) skin for my main skin. you will notice that the title bar in notepad has its bottom chopped off. this also takes off the bottom of the minimize, maximise and close buttons.

bug6 = again apply XP Jeans as a per application skin to notepad. now resize this window vertically with the mouse. do *not* hold down the alt key while doing this. look at the redraw effect at the bottom of the scroll bar. this happens every other move, going both up and down.

bug7 = apply XP Jeans as a per application skin to Internet Explorer. now try and read the favorites menu. look at the other menus for comparison. i am also noticing that IE is getting the same problem with the bottom of the title bar being chopped off as notepad.

hopefully this is the sort of feedback you were after. the programs you are listing at the start of the thread are ones i dont use, so i cannot really comment on those.

Thanks for the input. Hopefully a comprehensive bug list will arise out of this thread. As a disclaimer, in case anyone's not sure, I don't work for Stardock, I just used their name in my nick. I do things like that to help me remember my username from site to site.

on the off change stardock catch up with this, the TLP resizing bug is not fixed
it seems the early run with no resizing was a fluke.
