I don't know a lot about StyleXP, but have you tried uninstalling it and just running LogonStudio. Maybe there is a conflict between the two programs. StypleXP uses a hacked version of your uxtheme.dll when it skins your GUI. I may be that whatever else it does to your system is preventing Logon Studio to work

It seems that you did something that corrupted some files somewhere. Maybe it is a compatability issue. I didn't know that logonstudio and stylexp worked together, for one. I would uninstall any programs that might interfere with logon studio. Then, uninstall logon studio, and restart. Check the logonstudio directory and make sure it is erased. I would check the registry via msconfig and look for logonstudio references for startup files and delete those references too. Then, I would reinstall. If that doesn't work, you've corrupted something it seems to be. The only other solution would probably be to reinstall windows, update everything, get logon working again, and pay close attention to what you do that corrupts it. Any program you install after it, could corrupt it or it's files. It works fine for me, but I don't use Stylexp, just windowblinds and that doesn't mess with it.

well for a while i was running lognstudio and stylexp together.. but recently dumped stylexp especially with all the junk they have been trying to pull with iconpackager themes.. and everything was working fine even after i uninstalled stylexp.. and currently i don't have stylexp installed..no uxtheme dll hacks either.. all of that were taken out.. pretty much everything im using for change the look on my comp is a stardock app now.. bootscreen, windowsblinds, iconpackager, window fx, cursor xp(currently disbaled), logonstudio(not working) i have started using y'z dock but i doubt that will mess with logonstudio.. especially since it was installed a while back.. and i only recently started running it..

oh and also the other weird thing is that the default set of logons that come with logonstudio kinda work.. this is what one of them looks like when applied.. http://www.s2-illusions.com/images/logonstudio.jpg

Have you tried uninstalling LogoStudio as ChasUSG suggested in post #2?

Okay, try this. Sorry, I've been at work. I looked at the screen shot. It looks to me like you may have a display problem. Check your display settings and see if they are set to use the maximum color settings. That should be 1024x768 screen size(a good default), and 32bit colors.(Did you recently update or change your display drivers?) Then, open Logon Studio, and click restore default XP logon, and click apply. Even if you have checked the switch user, it still may not look correct. I would suggest a restart to make sure that any color changes are properly applied. After a restart, the default logon should look correct. If not, I think you have a display problem. Maybe your color settings are 16bit instead of 32bit. Post back, after you've tried the above.

koasati yes i did try uninstalling it and reinstalling it..

and as far as changing the screensize goes and such.. 1024x768 gives me the same look.. in 32bit and 16bit color modes.. restarted each time something was changed...

the last thing i installed the dealt with my vid card was tvtool 9.555
since newer ver of my graphic card drivers screw the display on an analog output(tv)
tvtool is the only way i was able to fix this problem... so without it im kinda screwed
but logonstudio was still working when tvtool was installed.. it just stopped out of no where.. currently im back to using logon loader.. with my alt set of logons.. not as nice as the logons i was using.. but i guess it will do till i format...

but ill take any other sugestions on this matter to try and fix this problem..

What is Logon Loader? Is that another Logon Program? Do you know that using two similar programs can conflict with each other? It sounds to me like you have some serious system issues and video issues that are not related to Logon Studio. Tvtool, messed up drivers, Logon Loader? It sounds like you created a mess for yourself.

logon loader is an app that will switch the logonui file..
i only went back to using it once logonstudio stopped working for me.. it was an app i was using before i found logonstudio..

and these two apps don't confilct each other from when i was testing logonstudio out the first time.. at one point before my last format i had stlye xp wb logonstudio and logon loader all on my comp running with no conflicts..

tvtool doesn't really change drivers physically.. but it adds an extension to the mulitmon setups.. so you cna easily tweak the settings and outut methods...

but just as a note.. logonloader was not installed when this problem occured..

I think the problem is display related from the screen shot. And, you've mentioned many problems with your display. You might try going back to a compatible version of your video card with the TV tool if it was working then. Otherwise, you have to decide what is important to you. Whenever my system gets corrupted, as it seems your system is, I think its wise to reinstall a fresh system. Then, you can trace what caused the system corruption. Pay close attention to what you do when the problem occurs. It can be anything from windows updates, to conflicting programs to bad drivers. I've had this problem many times myself. The trick is finding where the problem lies and what causes it to manifest itself. Good luck.

that is definitly a display problem and I doubt it has anything to so with the software except some drivers. I have the uxtheme patch right now on my computer and logon studio works. I have changed the logonui file to chaninja's and I could make logonstudio work. Stylexp and the uxtheme patch work just the same as the way the normal windows theming service does. all they do is allow third party skins to be used via the windows skinning engine and have nothing to do with the logon. Of course what is curious is why the standard logon screen works and the logonstudio screen doesn't.

Good point Travis. But, did he ever say that the standard logon screen works? Maybe he should try that. Still, I wouldn't be surprised what type of system one would get by mixing diferent programs such as Style XP and Windowblind programs. There has been mention that StyleXP Programs will hack certain dll files in Windows, thereby creating possible system instabilities. I say scrap the StyleXP programs and the hacked system files. But, it is probably too late once they are hacked.

Well it shouldn't matter. the normal logon screen is handled by the logonui.exe. I have hacked this and logonstudio still works. What I think is the problem is the communications between either the logon program (be it the normal logonui or logonstudio) and the video drivers or between the drivers and the display. I have seen screens look like that before and it was because of a video driver problem. It was on win98 and I fixed it very quickly but still it looked about the same.

Yeah, the display driver was my idea too, in the beginning. And, it seems to be the general consensus. Maybe he should try going back to a more stable video driver. One thing that I learned for sure was never to trust Windows Update to install second or thrid party drivers. Don't download video, sound or accessory drivers from windows update. If you need updated drivers, check your manufacturers website. I installed video and sound drivers from windows update and they crashed my system so bad that windows would not start. Then, when I finally recovered my system, I visited the manufacturers site for my sound card and they said that I didn't need those drivers from windows update. Of course Microsoft in going to deny any responsibility for third party drivers on their website. So, only you will lose by using them.
