In some catagories the ratings are very useful and I use them too find the things I like. The best example is the iconpackager library. Most of the higher ranked skins include a lot of icons which is what I prefer over the packs that might look good, but don't cover much.

I have seen skins get a 9 that I though were terrible, while other skins were given a 5 that I though were terrific. When your dealing with taste, there is no accounting for it. As the saying goes. "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". Also, as has been indicated, giving your freinds a high rating seems to be the in thing. If you really want the rating system to work, maybe it should be restricted to the top skinners who have proven their knowledge and artistic worth. Just a thought, don't jump all over me. I respect anyone who has the patience to make these skins.

This makes wonderful sense to me! Honor must somehow be brought into the system... although the cream does seem to rise to the top... if the work is accepted.

I don't think so. This suggestion has come up before and I don't agree. I have just as much right to my opinion of a skin as the top skinners. Plus, I don't see how this system would be without bias. I think some the skinners might not be totally objective when rating their competition.

I agree with 20 to 30 raters like travis said. at least all would be fair.

Listen again i will say i don't care about the ratings what i get or who gives it to me i can accept the fact if i get low ratings if someone thinks my stuff is rookie status i can understand :It is ....But when i notice everything in my library is affected at once I will accept that as a personal attack of sorts(suspicious to say the least) ...I do use the ratings system but in no way do i abuse the system but horiz0n / Travis you make very good points and i agree with both of you .I did not want to bring up the "Rating's Topic" and don't want you think i'm cryin about my ratings cause i'm not! I do believe in the ratings system to a certain extent but with every system thier are issues ...I didn't want to make that big of an issue of this but i guess i should of thought of this before i posted on the board ....Sorry hope i didn't offend anyone take care....

Here's my two cents.
I had a similar problem awhile back, got a big 2 rating on my skin the first day I uploaded it. Thanks to everyone who rated after, brought it back up though. A big thanks to Jafo for looking in on that problem. Here is my suggestion. Make it so when you rate a skin, you have to also leave a comment to go with the rating. If you take away the anonymous nature of the rating system ie, show a name and a comment for a rating, these little bouts of abuse would be nipped in the bud

Hehe All the good suggestions you people have made have been made multiple times before. This scene has been played out many times.

Plans are afoot to improve on the rating system...but needless to say, recent hardware dramas have preoccupied people's attention...

People need to be aware that the only ratings an Admin cannot see are those on his own works....

He/she can bring up a rater's full history and look for anomalies indicative of mischief....and take action if necessary...

I wonder when that went into effect, Jafo.
