And Your point is ? Everyone can post anything on da. Although it is a nice photograph I wouldn't use it as a wallpaper.

No, it dasn't bites... It is an insurance that the overal quality of the library is good (atleast... was)
If it was a render you were a genius, if its a picture... you are 'just another' artist.

If all you want is photographs of boats on an island....would you like some from the next as yet unseen Survivor? [at least it 'may' be topical]

Photographs will very rarely be accepted....otherwise we WILL end up akin to Devart.....with photos of Spot being considered somewhere between Rembrant and a wallpaper...

Devart is a great site. My perspective: http://bakerstreet.joeuser.com/

WC is about interface art, with some wallpapers. Artist interaction is a by-product. A great site, too, but limited ( as good sites should be ) in scope.

Deviantart is about artists, their stuff, and their interaction. If you look at it structurally, a great deal of work has gone into interaction, discussion. In my opinion, WC is a gallery, Deviantart is a Colony with a wall to hang your stuff on. Two different things entirely.

I always thought of Devart as a sociology experiment....someone doing his masters degree....and needing an experimental microcosm.

That would definitely justify the 'odd' occurrences such as the 'Jews' worst nightmare' fascist symbolism...and the pre-teen undressing girl as topicality for discussion of child porn [or not], and the 'quaint' perception of 'free speech' and its sovereign rights above all else.

Sometimes there was the distinct feeling you were being studied like a bug under glass...

deviantART is one of my favorite sites and I consider Jark to be one of my closest "net friends".

deviantART isn't a skin site in the same sense that WinCustomize. It's an art site but more to the point, it's a cultural center where people can get together and talk and interact in ways that are amazing and excellent.

it is an excellent photo, this however isnt really a photo kind of site.I suggest you try Xerraires photo sharing site,I bet she would welcome that one. http://www.mxskinz.com/

I like DA, too.  I have a profile and many *photos* there that are not here.  This is a skinning site.  DA is an art site.  (BTW, my profile is under "JavaBrain" there since somebody registered "KarmaGirl" as soon as I started using it as my "admin" name.....)  However, DA is not moderated.  you can upload anything there.  You can upload a snapshot of your big toe if you want.....which is one of the reasons that they need subscribers to pay for all that space and bandwidth

That is a great photograph, I am really impressed, but it doesn't belong here.

Citizen f0rTyLeGz

sorry....your copy-paste of my comment was a little un-selective and included the page, wrecking the thread layout...so both had to be removed.

Could you post again...a wee bit more carefully?...

I.R. Brainiac said> this however isnt really a photo kind of site.

I didn't know that this wasn't a "photo kind of site," and several of my early submissions were accepted with low ratings, and got plenty of downloads. Then, one was accepted with an 8 rating, and it has had 12000 downloads or more. It was the most downloaded for many days before the Dec crash, and made it to page 5 of the most downloaded in a month. None of my submissions have been accepted since that one.

Had I known that this was "not a photo kind of site," I wouldn't have spent all this time submitting here... and why has "Pillar of Light" been accepted and doing so well with so many?

I have no clue, but my guess would be, the pillar if light wallpaper is more unusual looking - a harder photo to take and a more unique image, whereas the most recent submission, although a breathtaking photo, it's probably too generic looking for the admins... I like it -- personally. But don't feel too bad - I submitted two photos I thought were pretty good and got denied too and wondered why YOUR photo got on

Bottom line? Your pillar of light is an amazing photo.

The word of importance is 'rarely'.

Some photographs do make it past moderation, but not all....just as some Generated landscapes will...but not all..some reflective, glassy floating balls of Bryce....but definitely not all....

Since the advent of digital cameras it has become within the capacity of any and every shutterbug to have a simple facility to create/submit digital images....not even needing emulsion development, scanning, etc as was the past.  Needless to say literally every man and his dog and their fleas could submit photographs ad nauseum unless there was some form of checks and balances.

Yours was a nice photo...particularly if you liked beaches and boats...but can mean a lot more to the photographer [holiday snap] than to his audience, meaning it's less likely to become someone else's wall, where the picture-taker may have a greater affinity for it...

would you like that with or without Britney and a blue dolphin

On Topic....I never really associated WC with photos, but with skinning apps. I don't know why they even have a wallpaper section, other than to give someone the ability to create or download a "complete" theme for their desktop.

Jafo you say that>Needless to say literally every man and his dog and their fleas could submit photographs ad nauseum unless there was some form of checks and balances.<

I kind of think you are missing what I am saying... I'm not defending the rights of "every man and his dog." I'm making beautiful wallpapers... the people like them and downloaded them by the thousands, but they "RARELY" get accepted (4), and half of those with a 4 ranking.

If WinCustomize in general believes that since the advent of digital cameras, dogs, their masters, and the fleas on the dog, are calling their snapshots art and sending them to your over burdened servers, and that they would bring down the spirit and very meaning of this site (unless they are DISCOURAGED FROM POSTING THEM BY BAD RATINGS AND "RARELY" BEING ACCEEPTED- as a policy), then it might be better for me to stop wasting my time posting my little snaps here? I didn't understand...

"then it might be better for me to stop wasting my time posting my little snaps here?"

Umm, yep, I'd say that about sums it up.

photographs don't garner as much attention because almost anybody can take them. Very, I mean very, few people have enough talent with the camera to make wallpapers for here. Most submitted here are made not taken and require much more effort. However it you did retouch or modify an image in a photo editor and made it look *&%*ing awesome then it would probably get accepted. However I don't moderate them so who am I to say.

Sometimes here does accept photos, like my brother's amazing pumpkin picture.

So, anyone got any Britney wedding photos?
