Automatically show fences on mouse over.

At specific edges of the screen, top, bottom, etc.

Pretty new to fences and have 1 feature I would really like.

TL:DR
Make roll up fences behave like "Automically hide the taskbar" in windows.

---

I am trying to figure out how to get my roll up fences, that are at the top of my screen to show up easily, especially when other windows are on top.
Ultimately, what would work best for me is to have a single pixel line at the top of the screen, on a mouse over, it would bring forward the roll up fences. Without the use of any shortcuts.

This was not possible in 4 from what I know.
In 5 I see that it is possible to right/left click on the bottom right corner of the screen to get it to show up.
This is counter intuitive for my use case, as I would first need to go into the right bottom corner with my mouse, then move all the way up to the top of my screen again.

As that does not work, I started looking into mapping a button combination to my gaming mouse.
Pretty bummed that I can not use a custom key combination. So my first try was to use something I would almost never use, windows + tilde. This does not work for me however I try.

I cant get it to work on my keyboard, cant get it to work as a macro, cant get it to work as a button combination on my gaming mouse.

For now I have just mapped one of the buttons on my mouse to windows + space, as a toggle and it works fine.
I can move to the top of my screen, with my mouse, and press the key combo using a single button on the mouse, all in a single motion.

But again if it was possible to simply move to the top of my screen with the mouse and the roll up fences pop up automatically, that would be even better.

Apart from that... minor nitpick: "Windows + Tidle", a small spelling error.

I recorded a quick video on the way I would like to use it. I am emulating it now by manually toggling the roll up fences on, when I touch the top edge of the screen, and toggling it off, when I leave any of the fence areas.

Hello,
From what I can test, your can set up Peek hot keys. With that activated, your Fences will be upfront when you press the set Keyboard combination of your choice. By default it was set to Win+Space or Win+Control+Space for toggle.

Thanks, as explained that is what I am doing now as well. =]

My wish was that it would do all of that automatically on a mouse over event, at the pixel row, at the top edge of the screen.

I am frustrated with the same type of thing. I want the mouseover to show the Fences. The Peek at the corner is a pain in the ass compared to using mouseover. Has it been removed from the program? Can't wait for an answer. I am about ready to remove Fences and put version 4 back. Can't understand why they would take this away and replace it with something more tedious and time consuming.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. But, not sure why your issue about. I believe Fences 5 do work just like Fences 4, which option you missed? As for Fences not showing on top while mouse over. This is always true for all version of Fences 3,4 and now 5. Never Fences able to bring upfront just by mouse over the Fences. Only in since Fences 4 you can bring Fences to top by special "hot keys" setting. And now with Fences 5, you can use your mouse to click on the corners to bring up the Fences.

Know that Fences by default only work on Desktop layer. It does not work like a Dock program such as ObjectDock, which work very differently than Fences.

Thanks

I do not want to click on corners to see my Fences. I have been using it for years and I use what was the mouseover function to see Fences. Ever since I enabled peek, the mouseover function doesn't work, or works randomly. I disabled Peek and nothing changed. Where is the mouseover to see Fences option in Fences 5? I know how it works - like I said I have used Fences for many years.

I am not sure what you mean by "mouseover function to see Fences". You mean you can't not mouseover the Fences titlebar to unroll the Fences? If that is the issue, that indeed a strange one. Below is a short video showing Fences unrolls and testing to bring fences upfront by using the hot keys. First with the Show Fences while pressing the hot keys and second use the Show fences upfront by toggle function hotkeys.

If you see differently, please post a video showing us your issue.

You are not understanding me. I do NOT want the rollup feature. I want what I had with version 4. The Fences were NOT visible UNLESS I moused over them. They would then BECOME visible.

Right click on the Fence, click View>Opacity>0% (Only visible when mouseover)

You don't have this option? Right click on the titlebar->view->Opacity->0%

Thanks. I think it's fixed now. Peek really screwed that up...

I spoke too soon. Once again - when I start the computer, the fences do not show up on any mouseover. So it is NOT fixed. Apparently they just randomly start to work. I have no clue what turns that on or off. I guess I need to open up a tech ticket as I am clueless on this.

No need for tech ticket, since Stardock now, do the tech support right here in the forum. Can you post a video on your setting on your fences, I am interested to see your setting on the Opacity, such what I show you on my screenshot and show us that is not working on your system.

So in this video, you can see how there are no fences showing and moving my mouse over the whole screen does nothing. If I hit the Hotkeys to show the Fences I can see them, and there I showed the opacity setting on one of them at 0% (visible only on mouseover). As soon as I do something else, the fences are once again gone and mouseover does nothing. I have to use hotkeys to see them. This is unsatisfactory. Prior to this update to v. 5 when I started my computer and fences started automatically. Mouseover worked ALL THE TIME. I do not want any hotkeys to see my Fences. There has to be something I set in the V. 5 settings that is causing  this. I just want it to work the way it used to. I do not need Peek or Hotkeys.

I have no clue how to upload the video here.

Sounds like you need to disable peek.

Peek is intended to show the fenced icons above windows that are open and would otherwise obscure them.

To simply interact with Fences in the original windows z-order the Fences can be set as transparent with mouse over to view....;)

Sunwheel9,

Thanks for the video. If you just click once anywhere on the desktop, and you move the mouse over the fences does it work? If that don't work please post this setting on your Fences 5
