Oh and as for getting work, I do not know where you live but I think if you try to get a civil service job (working for the city, state or federal goverment) would help.

Also try to get a CDL license, or maybe a security guard license. that way you can be hired as a commercial driver or a guard.

I just sent you another email, hopefully that works. I had a computer big mess up last night. I installed an 80 GB Maxtor HDD and my comp kept continually rebooting. I looked it up and I found that people had trouble with Win XP SP1 and Maxtor HDDs, so I had to re-install everything last night. I tried uninstalling SP1, but it froze in the middle and then it wouldn't recognize the OS - big headaches, but all is well now.

As I said, I will gladly mail you my old working Star Tac, it is doing me no good in the bottom of the closet. I think I forgot to mention that it was a Verizon phone, as all phones don't work with all services.

I have the batterey in the desktop charger. been charging for 2 hours now. apparently the phone itself will not charge the battery correctly but we shall see. After all it is a Li-on battery it should hold more than a few mintues charge. I am going to get a new one off ebay anyways.

As for the qwest phones we found out we need a 500 dollar deposit to start one of those. no thanks.

Ah good to hear. You are very welcome and I'm glad to help out. I think that I did mention that the battery itself was not holding much of a charge. I originally had 4 batteries for that phone, that is the only working one left. Hopefully, the car charger will help too, so you can keep it charged on the go. To best charge that battery, use the charger that plugs directly into the phone. I could talk for about an hour, until the battery finally gave out. That is the reason I got a new phone, the only way to get a new battery was on ebay, so I said pffft! Besides, Verizon gives you a $100 toward a new phone after 2 years of service.

Look closely at the user contracts to find the phone that's best for you. Make sure there are no hidden costs for things like talking out of your area. Find out which companies your family and friends use, and base your decision partly on that. Some companies allow cell to cell calls free if both are on the same network. Also be careful of those "3500" free minutes. There are so many stipulations for recieving those minutes, half the time you think you're using those minutes and turns out you're being charged because you didn't call while underwater and riding an elephant with one toe missing( not literally obviously, just an example of the lengths you have to go to to qualify a call for those free minutes in some cases).

Basicly, the type or brand of phone isn't the big question. The capabilities of the phone are most important. If you need to get email and don't have a computer anymore, then a phone with email and instant messaging capabilities is important. If you need to make and recieve calls in a wide range of places , you should make sure your phone has both digital and analog abilities( or have all phones now been upgraded to this technology?)do some research and see which companies offer discounted phones for signing on with their service, and again read the fine print. If you don't want to be locked into a 2 year contract, you might not be able to get their "free phone". Look into which companies have the best pricing for "family sharing", If you and your sig. other need to keep in touch , the family sharing plans are definately worth the while.

Bottom line, If you're going to be hitting a point in your life where things aren't as stable as they could be, you really need a phone service. So if you have to make sacrifices, don't do it with the phone. Buy inexpensive, but look for the most "bang" for the buck.
I completely understand the need to part with your animals, and am so glad you can at least keep one. Find someone you feel very comfortable with, and possibly can see your animals on a semi regular basis with, and foster them in that manner.
As far as Laptop goes, check out ebay and see if there are any decent ones out there that just need a new battery or minor repair(like missing a cdrom drive or something). You don't need top of the line, but the important things are size of hd, amount of ram, processor speed and ability to upgrade (extra slots, etc).

Above all, keep your chin up and know there's a whole pack of us out here willing to watch out for you and be here if you need a shoulder to lean on.

Kona, I know people haven't said anything about this. At least what I've read. But have you looked into government help in any way? Both State and Fed usually have things for people that need help. You just have to find them. I wish I had some sites in fav. By what I saw your Wife is getting SSD, this opens her to many many things. I know because I'm on SSD too (I'm only 22, it sucks) But I'm getting paid to go back to school. You just have to make some phone calls and find the stuff. Start checking with local government buildings, fed sites, etc. There has to be something out there. But you have to make the effort to try for it and do the large amount of paper work . But I'm sorry to hear what your going through. I wish the best for you.

About your phone thing, I can't help you with that. Sorry.

Kona, there is no reason that you should be living out of a car or having to give up your pets.

First, unless you really screwed up on the contract with your landlord, you have at least 30 days after written notice to vacate.  Since you know this is happening, you need to find a place now.  Even in this area, which is really expensive, it is still possible to find places to rent even if you have bad credit and low income.  You just need to look for them.  You say that you are only working 2 days a week at your current job.  Find another for those other 3 days.  The easiest way to get where you want to be is by working.  I see signs all the time for help wanted closing at fast food chains, part time baggers at grocery stores, etc.  Those jobs are plentiful until summer (when the kids start filling them).  They don't pay a lot, but some is better than nothing.  I supported myself on $7.00 an hour, so I know that there is no reason for a married couple (especially if she is getting $700 a month in SS) to be homeless.  Of course, I didn't have cable TV, didn't go out to movies or out to eat ever, but I did pay all my bills and lived on my own (and supported a small dachshund in the process) and *never* missed a payment on anything (still haven't).  If you have bad debt, contact a credit counseling service as they are typically free and can get your accounts into one manageable payment.  Find a really large apartment complex and explain to them your situation.  They will typically work out a contract with you that costs more per month the first year but only requires a small security deposit.  It really just requires work, but it is possible to do.  I also think that living out of your car is illegal in most states, plus you will still have to pay to store your stuff someplace unless you are planning on selling it all.
