A Couple of Issues

After my computer has been running for awhile, say several hours, Groupy misbehaves.

2 issues:

1. When groupy is working, the highlighted tab does not change when I switch tabs.

2. When I have multiple Chrome instances grouped - e.g. different Google Accounts, the Groupy tab often disappears. When this happens the only way I can switch between instances is via the taskbar.

I didn't have these issues with Groupy 1.

---------------------------

Win11 Pro.

I updated nvidia drivers today to eliminate that as source of the problem.

Thanks.

In the Groupy pic you can see that the tab hilite doesn't change, but the tabs are changed between 2 instances of Chrome w/different themes.

For issue #2, there's nothing to take a pic of. I cannot display the Groupy tab menu.

I've installed the Groupy beta - both issues remain.

Thanks for the quick follow-up!

First, try this, uninstall Start11, reboot immediately (important) re-install Groupy 2.11 beta, reboot again immediately. Retest both issue. If it still happen. Please capture a video of this happening to help us understand your issue better. Upload to any video sharing site such as Youtube and share its link here.

Also of note...

You are way behind on Windows updates, is there any reason you are not updating? (current 21h2 is. 22000.2416)

How are you changing groupy tabs?

@TPScroggins: Windows status was "Up to Date" but I ran the checker, which found updates. I installed them. Now at Version 21H2 (0S Build 22000.1455). Status of these issues has not changed.

@Neil: I am changing Groupy Tabs by clicking on them. In the bottom pic, the tab labelled "inbox (6)" should be hilighted - that is the instance of Chrome (pink theme) that is displayed. The other instance has tabname: "compose new..." and has blue theme. When the Groupy Bar is visible

@basj: I'm not running Start11.

I am running Explorer Patcher and PowerToys, so maybe there is a conflict there. I turned off "PowerToys/Fancy Zones" which is functionally related to Groupy, but the issue persists. A quick fix is to toggle Groupy Off/On. But the problem returns pretty quickly.

Is there an easy way to switch between Groupy and Groupy 2 or do I need to uninstall/re-install to do that?

Thanks.

I am sorry, I meant Groupy2. Please try those steps I mentioned above but, change Groupy2 instead of Start11. And to change between Groupy to Groupy 2 is best to uninstall/reboot immediately after/install/reboot again.

BTW I believe, the latest official release version of Windows 11 is Version 22H2 (OS Build 22621.2283) https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/september-12-2023-kb5030219-os-build-22621-2283-8b9ba74f-fdde-4c75-b049-77cf214f4a66

I uninstalled it completely. Rebooted. Reinstalled. Rebooted. Problem recurred. A video won't show anything - imagine 2 windows from the same app superimposed on one another and the only way to switch is alt-tab or menu bar.

I don't see how being slightly behind in Win updates could be the issue bc if it was, you'd have a lot of people reporting this. Unfortunately, I'm out of time for testing this issue.

One other issue, perhaps a clue to the problem: When I move a window, sometimes the Groupy menu gets separated - just stays in place by itself. Then when I'm move the window again the Groupy menu snaps into place.

Groupy is certainly one of the most useful Win utils on the market. I'll revert to the previous version and keep an eye out for updates.

Thanks for the help!

First, if you refer here Windows 11 V21H2 was introduce back in Oct, 2021 and V22H2 was first introduce back in Sept 2022, almost a year ago. I believe, there are a lot of changes done to Windows 11 since 2021. Which might be causing the issue with current version of Groupy2.

I have this problem on windows 10 which I reported during the Beta's of Groupy2. This is the first report I have seen on windows 11.

Here is a link to a video I created to show this issue.

Note how one of the windows moves without the Groupy2 bar.

This only happens after an interaction with the taskbar thumbnails for the affected window.

I installed Groupy2 on a fresh install of Windows 10, and it didn't have this issue.

Just curious, did you upgrade to windows 11 from Windows 10, or was it a fresh install of Windows 11?

I installed Windows 10 on the machine which has this issue in 2017 and have upgraded using Windows Update over the years to 19045.3448. I'm guessing that something is hiding in the Registry somewhere which is causing this issue.

I upgraded from Win10. After running a total unintall/reinstall, including settings and grous, of G2 based on instructions above, I did find that G2 retained the custom color of it's menu bar, so clearly some registry entries were retained.

Not sure exactly which change fixed it, but I got it fixed.

First, I did an extensive search of the Registry using Nirsoft's RegScanner app and saved the results. Then I ran the Purge .bat file for Groupy. Restarted the computer and then checked to make sure all the Registry entries were removed. They were.

Next, I ran a search of my C: Drive for "Groupy." I found a strange entry in "C:\Users\MyUserName\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.Cortna" that had Stardock Groupy Config at the end of the file name and I deleted it.

Then I downloaded the latest Groupy Beta "Groupy2_2.1.2.0-j109-Setup_sd,"  restarted the computer and then installed it.

Hallelujah, the issue was fixed!

Not sure if it was all the work I did, or just the new beta version, but it's fixed.

Remember, I'm running Windows 10 - 19045.3448

Thanks for the update.

I'm too busy for that much effort. G 1.5 works well and remains super useful. I'll try the next public release.

End of droddesbrane's quote

So I have confirmed that the new Beta ver. 2.12 fixes the issue with the Tabs getting stuck and the Groupy tab bar separating from the window.

  • A tweak for how it handles window peek as it may have been causing the wrong tab to get stuck selected or the entire tab bar to go missing in edge cases

All of the work I did was for naught. The update fixed it.
