Taskbar frozen at startup

Sometimes, after booting, the taskbar is just a gray bar with nothing on it. Nothing else happens.

If I press CTRL+ALT+DEL and log out, then log back in, it comes back.

It happens about 25% of the time or so. I've never seen it happen twice (after logging out and back in) so might be a race condition of some sort with something else launching at startup.

I'm running Windows 11 Pro 22H2, build 22621.2070.

My installation is 3 days old, so I have barely anything else installed.

This was happening before I reinstalled my system as well, but I didn't report it, because lots of "fun" stuff was happening. (my previous OS install went 8 years and 3 upgrades without a reinstall, so it was over due for a clean slate...)

I've never had similar issues with the two previous generations of this product.

If there is anything I can do or provide to help debug the issue, please let me know.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. You are referring to Start11, yes? If so, first please try this. Uninstall Start11, reboot immediately after (important), re-download the latest version from your product account page. Install it. Reboot again after. Retest it and report back.

If the issue still there, report back with information below.

  • Your installed Start11 version.
  • Any other 3rd party product installed doing same or similar thing to your taskbar and/or Start panel.
  • Screenshots would also help us understand your issue better.

Thank you,

By latest version, you mean the beta version, or just the latest release version?

I'm already running a clean install of the latest release. (1.47)

Any of the 1.47.2 or 1.47.3 Beta should be okay.

alright, I've uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled a fresh download of the release version 1.47.2, and rebooted.

I will post an update in the next few days and let you know if it helped or not. :-)

It looks like this helped! I haven't had any serious issues with the taskbar or menu in almost a week now. 👍

It does every now and then take a little while to launch... so the old start menu will sit there for 10-15 seconds before Start 11 replaces it. One time, it didn't look like it was going to launch at all, and when I finally clicked the regular Win 11 start button, it suddenly switched.

But it hasn't crashed or frozen.

I guess, consider this case closed for now - I'll open a new issue if I have problems again. 🙂
