Icons unable to wrap around fences without 'Auto arrange icons' enabled

Hi All,

I just bought Fences 4, and I'm curious why fences are unable to wrap icons around them. This works fine with 'Auto arrange icons' enabled, but that settings honestly doesn't fly with my workflows, and without it, icons can get hidden behind fences (and fences can be dragged over icons, hiding them). Free roaming icons and fences don't seem to co-exist very well.

I appreciate the freedom to place icons wherever I want, and Fences complements that really well. Until of course an icon gets hidden behind a fence and I have no idea that it's there until I move all the fences out of the way and finally find it. This seems like a really odd design decision and I'm wondering if there's a setting I'm missing.

At first I thought this may be a bad install, but I've run the purge process and functionality remains unchanged. I wanted to get some feedback before I do a clean boot, as doing that is obviously pointless if this is intended behavior.

Any videos I'm able to find that demonstrate the wrapping always have Auto arrange enabled, so that just reinforces the thought that it's by design.

I'm not particularly interested in forcing all icons into a new fence, though I'm sure I could jury rig some sort of a setup to kind of work around this behavior, just seems kind of odd that it's not just a setting. Or is it a setting, and I'm just completely missing it?

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. From what I know, the only way to work around this is to move all icons within Fences so Fences can control those icons layout and location. To be sure, I have forwarded your problem/question to Stardock Support Team for their assistance. Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates. We appreciate your feedback and patience.

Thanks

Hello again,

The Dev has come back and would like to inform this issue is currently taken notice. Hopefully something will be put in place to resolve it in the future version of Fences.

Hi Basj,

Thanks for the reply. I'll play around with it a bit to see if I can figure out a workaround for now using 4.

I swapped back to Fence 2.13 to make sure I'm not crazy, wrapping works fine there, so it must have gotten broken sometime since. o_O

Have a great day!

Same problem. I spent a long time trying to find an icon. Turns out it was under a fence. Yes, it used to work great.

Just wanted to close this thread out. This was never fixed in Fences 4 (as far as I'm aware), but seems to once again work great in Fences 5, so that's good enough for me.
