Folder portal does not work correctly

https://1drv.ms/f/s!AtACdaOctgRAgZRKtkQ63VeHRMAvug?e=OaMUnn

hello.

When you create a Folder Portal and double-click an Excel, Word, or other file in the folder, the file itself is opened as a folder, rather than launching the application.

I have captured and uploaded the image so that you can see what is happening.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Is the issue happen only on newly created and unsaved excel document? Does it open an old saved excel documents?

Thanks

HI,

It occurs in newly created and unsaved excel document as well as in saved documents.

Additional testing.

This problem seems to occur only with MS Office documents (exce, word, powerpoint).

It did not occur with ".txt" or ".pdf" documents.

This is the version of office I am using.

Microsoft Office 365 Ver 2305 build 16501.20210

thank you.

Does those document open properly when you open it via Windows Explorer.exe?

Yes.

Opening the folder with Windows Explorer.exe and opening those documents is not a problem.

Please try purge and reinstall steps as mention here : [Link]. Just make sure to re-download the latest version from your account page. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall and reboot again after the installation. Retest and report back here.

Thank you,

I tried that.

But, It was no good.

Downloaded the purge tool from the Link destination and kicked Purge_Fences.bat with Administrators.

Then rebooted the PC.

Downloaded and installed the latest Fence and rebooted the PC.

However, the same problem still occurs......

Can you do a quick test for me, please removed the Japanese characters from the filename and try again

The same problem occurred with folder and file names in English only.

It does not seem to affect whether the path name is in English or Japanese.

I am unable to reproduce the issue on my 11 machine, same Windows version, same Office version

Seems like you might have something else installed that is conflicting with Fences

Hello,

I tried uninstalling the application that seemed to be in conflict, but no improvement.

I believe the problem was not a problem with the original Fence V4, but was caused by an update over a couple of months.

I haven't got an older Fence 4 so I can't confirm this.

I don't want to reinstall Windows, so I've changed to Fence V3 and it works fine, so I'm going to use V3.

Hello.

I have found a way to reproduce this problem.

Please follow these steps

(1)Open File Explorer Options.

(2)Click on the View tab.

(3)Check enable the "Launch folder windows in a separate process" option under the Advanced settings list.

After making this setting, double-clicking an MS Office file(pptx, xlxs, docx) in the Fence folder causes a problem.

This defect does not occur in Fences 3, but does occur in Fences 4.

Could you please check?

Thank you.

Do you have a use case for tuning this option on?

Yes, I use it all the time.

Because if a folder is performing a burdensome process, the response of the entire machine will be slow.

Therefore, I always separate the folder process to prevent other tasks from becoming unresponsive.

I've got a very similar problem. When I try to open a Word or Ppt or Excel file from a folder portal I see the message "Do you want to open or save this file". When I select 'open', the file is opened but in read-only mode. Also, the folder portal seems to think I've opened a folder rather than the file!

So far, I've found this only applies to MS Office files. E.g. From a folder portal I can open jpg files using Paint or PDF files using PdfExchange Viewer.

Along with htakado, I find that the problem only occurs if I set 'launch folder windows in a separate process'.

Everything works fine with File Explorer regardless of whether or not folder windows are launched in a separate process.

Will this problem be resolved?

I am waiting with great hopes.

While odd-ish behavior, its not destructive; one can navigate back and the Fence takes the name of the correct folder it's in.  However, if you wanted to avoid it altogether, instead of double-clicking the file, right-clicking the file \ open would be a way to avoid it.

Does that mean that fundamental corrections will not be made?

If so, I am very disappointed.

It will be logged internally, htakado, yes.  However, that is not a common Windows setting and, again, the manifestation is not destructive. I think you would agree, it's strictly a cosmetic result.
