Holiday Thoughts- Helping Out

I'm on my way to the Red Cross to donate blood. I donate four to five times a year and I always feel special when I do. Usually I take my daughter Lauren (age 9) with me. She keeps me company and always asks when she will be old enough to give.

It gives me a good feeling to do this. I always joke about how giving blood and getting my hair cut is the easy way to lose weight. (Doesn't seem to work for me in case you are interested.) I just want to encourage everyone to find something that will give them this same feeling. Share it with your kids. Especially at this time of year.

Many people can't do the "blood thing." This is by no means the only charity out there. Its cold in Michigan (except Livonia, sunny and 72 as always) and there are many coat drives. Donating an old but still wearable garment is certainly worthwhile. On Christmas Day the secular organization that I belong to drives the Meals On Wheels cars so the Christian drivers have time with their families. There are a multitude of other options.

Giving is always good (IMHO) but at this time of the year it is always specia. And if you involve your family you create traditions and memories that last forever.

Got to go, don't want the giving to start without me!

My 4 year old son likes to put money in the Salvation Army bell ringers kettle. During the past few weeks, they have been at the grocery and department stores and, whenever we go, he will hear the bell ringing and always ask for money to put in the kettle. He gets a kick out of it and upon asking what they do with the money, I explained they help out people that don't have homes or food or clothing. He asked "Or Christmas presents?". I said "Yes, Christmas presents, also."

Merry Christmas!

Getting the odd tattoo or two prohibits my blood donating....gotta have a year gap since the last tattoo work....but my Driver's License has me as an Organ Donor....but I'm not planning to be doing that 'just' yet...

I can tell you for a fact that not a single person wants my blood or would take it...
Can't be an Organ Donor anymore either....

But it is a good thing to know that others are willing to donate...
