When you look at the screen snapshot below of the military power of all of the civilizations, it appears that the military power of the Drath almost tripled in one turn. How does this happen? I am over 100 turns into the game so this can't be due to getting one powerful Command ship.
My guess would be that they got an immense amount of credits from their faction, and were able to rush a ridiculious amount of ships. why they did it on that specific turn, I cannot explain.
Another explanation could be an event. If you got a pop up telling about them obtaining an artifact, and you needing to stop them, before it's "too late", it's time to make moves, until it's actually too late 
Here is another screen snapshot from later in the game. I would not think that their military power should go up and down so precipitously.
Well, hard to tell. With a save file from the turns, and cheats it could be possible to look at what exactly happened there.
