Snipping Tool in Start11

The snipping tool windows don't show up on the taskbar

Hi, I've just purchased Start11.  I have the windows snipping tool pinned to the task bar, and I'm using the "Never combine" option.  It works fine, but when I go to use snipping tool and take one more screen/window grabs, the instances of snipping tool don't show up on the task bar at all.  In fact, after taking the screen grab it disappears all together, meaning I have to sift through windows to find it again.  Taking multiple screen grabs is something I do often, and having each instance visible on the task bar is important for productivity.

Additionally, when you take a second snip, it destroys the first snip windows that I took!  The window goes missing.  Snipping tool has a setting "Multiple Windows (Open new screenshots in different windows)" but Start11 seems to be getting in the way of this.

Is there some setting I need to change, or is this a bug in Start11?

Thanks.

(Edit: Corrected title and added inform about multiple snipping windows)

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. I don't see the capability for Windows Snipping tool to capture more than one at a time. Do you see it available on your system when you not using Start11?

Here what Microsoft answer on it: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/snipping-tool-question-how-to-capture-multiple/e7be7b09-2068-47f5-9e33-7b15ef0ccb02

There is definitely a setting to allow each snip to open in a multiple window:

That Microsoft article you posted is from 2010 and does not apply to the new snipping tool.

If I turn off start 11 on the taskbar, the snipping tool works as expected.  However, that's not the point - when using "Never combine" in sTart11, each snipping window gets "eaten" by start11.  Are you able to replicate the issue?

I'm using Start11 Version 1.41, here's the windows version I'm using:

In fact, to get these screen shots I kept facing the same issue.  Each window doesn't show up as separate on the task bar.  Screen shots to demonstrate (which were difficult to obtain due to the issue):

There are multiple snips taken... but where is each one on the task bar?

Proof that there are multiple snips, but each snip windows is NOT showing on the task bar - it should be, just like any other application.

Ah, Windows 11, sorry, should have mentioned Windows 11 on your first post. Let me check and get back.

I cannot reproduce your issue,

I do not use, the snipping tool (we use Sharex) but here is what I did:

Turn on the multiple windows settings

Take a snip,

click the preview window

repeat as needed

i didnt know about the multiple windows thing.. this changes EVERYTHING omg

i also have it pinned to taskbar and "ungroup always".

pre the windows 22h2 my snip window opened after snipping. after 22h2 (and the start11 versions to fix the taskbar) the snip window doesnt open a "window"

after snipping: (looks the same as no snip)

when hovering over the snip icon

thought i was going crazy so didnt mention it before lol

----

edit:

windows 11 22h2
start11 1.4.2 - ungroup all
no explorer modifications or ui changers

when disabling "taskbar" in start11 the snip window opens up again "automatically" on a snip. so im skepticaly sure its got something to do with start11 but how??? it shouldnt be able to change something like that.

multiple snip windows on hovering on the snip icon show as per above except more thumbnails as if the taskbar was "grouped"

Thanks @awstam, this is exactly what I see.   @TPScroggins this proves it's not just me, so this is a definite issue.

Any advance on this?  Because "it works on my machine" isn't really a satisfactory support response to a *genuine* issue.  It's still happening.

Or is this a case of a paid for piece of software only being as good as its support team.  If so, the software is disappointing.

Hi, Yes I have set the settings as above, they were always set like that.

The issue still persists.

(Edit: Now using Start11 Version 1.41)

with a single window. ive found win key + shift + s. select the area. nothing appears. then click the icon in the taskbar and then the snip window pops up with your previous snip.

is this start11 or windows? i cant live without start11 to check if it does that on windows default as well :P

I also have a screen recording of the issue that demonstrates it, but I can't upload it to here because the forums don't let me.

This is under investigation for the next S11 update.

I also have this issue.

Temp workaround is to relaunch Snipping Tool app from start menu after taking a snip.  The app will reload with the snip contents and will be visible again in the task bar.  ... Until you take your next snip.  lol

Looking forward to seeing a patch for this.  :)

Same issue here and been having it on multiple systems for quite a while now. Hope it will be resolved soon though.

(Currently Start11 ver 1.46, Windows 11 Pro 22H2, build 22621.1928.)

Looks like that thread is closed so I can't reply there but their response was to turn on "Multiple Windows" which I don't want to do.

Is anyone else getting a vertically spinning taskbar with Start11 v1.5 when using the Snipping Tool?  It's like a slot machine where all of the taskbar buttons slide down and up and this only happens when "Let Start11 enhance the taskbar" is enabled.  It usually takes about 5-10 sec to settle down to where I can click on a taskbar item.
