Configure Fences

Fails to start, does nothing

1. When running Configure Fences from the desktop icon, you get this:

On clicking the Open Fence Settings button, you get ... nothing. The Task Manager shows that it is not running.

2. Using the Configure Fences also does nothing.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. May I know, you're running Fences V3 or V4? And please:

  1. Check this, make sure both Fences on Taskbar manager Startup list are enable.
  2. Reboot the system,
  3. Retest your system and report back.

1. Version 4.1.0.6 (from the install file).

2. Check this:

3. I have done a Win update and rebooted several times. No change.

4. Question: If I clean-uninstall-reinstall, do I need to backup c:\Users\dilog\AppData\Roaming\Stardock\Fences\ and c:\Users\dilog\AppData\Roaming\Stardock\Fences\? Is there anything else to backup?

You can backup your layout snapshot using this guide: https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#backupsnapshots.

Moving forward with your issue. First, please try purge and reinstall steps as mention here : [Link]. Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account page. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall and reboot again after the installation. Retest and report back here.

Is Fences opening if you try it via the other methods?:

 

  • Via the desktop shortcut if one was added on install

 

  • Via selecting Fences from the Start Menu

Windows 11:

Windows 10:

  • Via File Explorer, browse to C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Fences and double-click the Fences application (Fences.EXE)

i have use the purging tool now. Now it works again.

I followed your instructions and everything works as expected. Just a few questions:

1. Do you have any idea why that happened? (I have been using Fences since version 2 and I have never seen this problem before.)

2. Is your supplied purge script general - should this problem occur again, can it be used after a Fences update?

  1. Not sure what happened on your system.
  2. Yes, it should work. If it not, Support will let us know and update it to make sure it work for the latest Fences version.
