Known issues

While we appreciate all feedback, please remember that we offer no official support for beta \ preview \ developer channel versions of Windows. If you report issues while in any of those early release channels, you should not expect them to be addressed unless it still exists in a retail version of Windows.

Tried 4.10.02 because of some problems when display turns back on from easy "display off" state. But fences' interface doesn't open at all with this version.

Fences works but no config possible.

Win 11 22H2.

Thanks, does the issue also happen if you only go to sleep mode and resume?

Thank you,

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

The Fences UI does take a bit longer to open than we would like (~4 seconds), but will open.

easy "display off" state.

What's confusing me here is 'easy'... Do you mean that you shut it off manually?

In any event, if you reboot, can you get to the Fences UI from a search:

Sorry, i'll try to explain better (i'm german).

I've got no energy saving (like standy) applied. Just "Display Off after 10min".
My Fences are configured to have space for exact 2 Icons horizontally. With Version 4.0.7.2 when Display goes off (and then comes on again) all Fences are squeezed to 1.9 icons horizontal although they are locked.
So i have to unlock and rearrange.

So i wanted to test the beta to check if this problem is fixed.
The beta installs. My Fences are shown. But i can't enter Fences' menu. When i try to open it nothing happens.

I reinstalled 4.0.7.2 and menu works again.

I'm seeing the same issue with Windows 11 Home 22H2 Build 22621.1343. The config loads on Windows 10 Home 22H2 Build 19045.2673 however, albeit a lot slower than expected (~10 seconds).

Also, I had to roll back to the last stable version of Fences on Windows 11 as apparently it was interfering with port 2402 which my CVS setup was using. When I did a diff on a file, CVS crashed, suggesting it couldn't access this port. After rolling back to Fences 4.7.0.2, all was fine.

That is nearly unfathomable that Fences would cause an issue with that.

Again, the Fences UI takes longer to appear than we would like but this is my test on Windows 11 Preview:

Note that 'Fences Settings' appears in Task Manager.  Is it for you?

Well, this beta was the only thing I installed since my last successful CVS usage, and after going back to the stable version of Fences, CVS worked again.

It didn't load at all in Windows 11. It's too late for me to see if "Fences Settings" appears in Task Manager, as I've already rolled back.

So you are unwilling to test that, Steve?

It isn't visible in Taskmanager for me. That was the first thing i checked.
End of mweling's quote

Then can you see it crashing in Windows Event Viewer? Exmple:

If so, we want to collect the dumps when that happens.  For how to do so, please see:

https://support.stardock.com/space/SHC/1332969475/Manually+Collecting+Fences+Crash+Dumps

Thanks for the feedback and help resolving this for the few that seem to be seeing it?

Scratch that.

If it is a crash for the UI it would be logged to:

%appdata%\Stardock\Fences\TroubleshootingLog\fences_debug_info.txt

Example path:

C:\Users\seand\AppData\Roaming\Stardock\Fences\TroubleshootingLog\fences_debug_info.txt

For anyone not seeing the Fences UI pop after a 10-second wait, please zip\ upload to cloud drive service of your choice \ post a shared link to that log here in the following format:

YourUsernameFences_debug_info.zip

for example, mine would be:

sdrohanFences_debug_info.zip

We will look them over.

Finally found some time to look at this again.

1) Checked CVS history on one file and CVS diff on another - worked fine.

2) Re-downloaded the Fences beta to ensure I had the latest one.

3) Installed the Fences beta, restarted, and waited for all my usual apps to completely load.

4) Right-clicked on my desktop, then clicked View/Configure Fences. Waited - no activity.

5) Checked Task Manager - no sign of "Fences Settings"

6) Tried View/Configure Fences again. Waited - no activity.

7) Checked Task Manager - no sign of "Fences Settings"

8) Retried CVS history. Worked.

9) Retried CVS diff. Worked.

Conclusion: The CVS issue I encountered must have been an anomaly. However, configuration on this beta version of Fences doesn't appear and shows no signs of having been loaded.

Expected but good to see confirmation.  Next would be:
